What are the differences in outcomes between simple and complicated FSF managed by early IMN?
To compare the outcomes of simple versus complicated femoral shaft fracture (FSF) treated by early intramedullary nail. ⋯ Complicated femoral fractures are associated with higher morbidity, especially in less severely injured polytrauma, which eventually results in longer hospital stay. Patients with moderate ISS and complicated fracture may have an increased risk of ARDS.

Hardware removal rates after surgical treatment of proximal femur fractures : Nationwide trends in Finland in 1997-2016.
Various internal fixation methods have been used to treat proximal femur fractures and occasionally the fixation material is removed. However, nationwide trends of hardware removals are not known. Thus, this study investigated the hardware removal rates after proximal femur fractures in Finland during 1997-2016. ⋯ III, Epidemiologic study.

Traumatic brain injury enhances the formation of heterotopic ossification around the hip: an animal model study.
The incidence of heterotopic ossification (HO) is at its highest when trauma of the hip or pelvis concurs with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The pathogenic mechanisms underlying the neurogenic enhancement of the formation of HO remain, however, poorly understood. Hence, the goal of the present study was to develop a novel small animal model that combines hip and brain trauma that can prove the enhancement of HO around the hip after TBI. ⋯ The newly developed rat model, with a combined hip and brain trauma, showed an enhancement of the HO formation around the hip after severe TBI.

Change in paediatric upper extremity fracture incidences in German hospitals from 2002 to 2017: an epidemiological study.
Recent studies investigating the frequency of paediatric fractures in Germany are not available. The primary aim of this study was to report frequencies of the most common paediatric upper extremity fractures treated in German hospitals in 2002 and 2017 and to detect changes over time. ⋯ The absolute number of paediatric upper extremity fractures decreased from 2002 to 2017, while the incidence of in-hospital treatment of clavicle and forearm fractures increased significantly, indicating a trend towards operative treatment.

Acetabular retroversion in dysplastic hips is associated with decreased 3D femoral head coverage independently from lateral center-edge angle.
The clinical significance of acetabular retroversion in non-dysplastic hips can be explained as pincer-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), whereas that in dysplastic hips is not clarified because FAI normally poses little problems for dysplastic hips. We aimed to evaluate three-dimensional (3D) femoral head coverage in dysplastic hips with and without acetabular retroversion and to elucidate the role of acetabular retroversion on the 3D femoral head coverage. ⋯ Acetabular retroversion in dysplastic hips was associated with decreased 3D femoral head coverage independently from lateral center-edge angle. The age at surgery in the retroversion group was significantly younger, suggesting a relationship between decreased 3D coverage and potentially earlier symptom onset.
