Early postoperative magnetic resonance imaging findings after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: T2 hyperintensity of the capsule can predict reduced shoulder motion.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether postoperative shoulder magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings correlate with postoperative shoulder range of motion (ROM) at about 4 months after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). ⋯ Newly developed signal changes of the capsule, pericapsular soft tissue at the axillary recess, and subcoracoid fat triangle were often detected on postoperative MRI at 4 months after ARCR. Furthermore, newly developed T2 hyperintensity of the capsule and pericapsular soft tissue at the axillary recess correlated with limited ROM in ER and IR at 4 months after ARCR.

Combined CT-based and image-free navigation systems in TKA reduces postoperative outliers of rotational alignment of the tibial component.
Rotational malpositioning of the tibial component can lead to poor functional outcome in TKA. Although various surgical techniques have been proposed, precise rotational placement of the tibial component was difficult to accomplish even with the use of a navigation system. The purpose of this study is to assess whether combined CT-based and image-free navigation systems replicate accurately the rotational alignment of tibial component that was preoperatively planned on CT, compared with the conventional method. ⋯ We concluded that combined CT-based and image-free navigation systems decreased the number of rotational outliers of tibial component, and was helpful for the replication of the accurate rotational alignment of the tibial component that was preoperatively planned.

Which factors are independent predictors of early recovery of mobility in the older adults' population after hip fracture? A cohort prognostic study.
The aim of the present study was to identify all factors that might influence the short-term recovery of mobility in older adults' patients after hip surgery. ⋯ Therapy and physiotherapy choices after surgery for hip fracture are significantly associated with early recovery of mobility of older adults' patients, regardless of their baseline conditions. Early removal of supporting devices promoting prolonged bed immobility, such as air mattress, catheter, and incontinence pad, together with achieving an early upright position, are elements to take into account when planning future trials to understand its efficacy in enabling better recovery of mobility.

ReviewEvidence-based concepts for prevention of knee and ACL injuries. 2017 guidelines of the ligament committee of the German Knee Society (DKG).
Knee injuries and especially anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are frequent in athletes. Therefore, primary and secondary prevention of sports-related lower limb injuries is an ongoing topic of interest. The aim of present study was to establish guidelines for the prevention of knee and ACL injuries on the basis of evidence-based concepts represented in current literature. ⋯ Screening, identification, and correction of endangering movement patterns like the dynamic valgus are the first crucial steps in order to prevent knee and ACL injuries in athletes. Furthermore, jumping, running and flexibility exercises as well as balance and strength training are proven to reduce the incidence of these injuries and should, therefore, be integrated into the regular warm up program. Appropriate complete prevention programs are freely accessible via the Internet and should be adapted to the specific sport disciplines.
