A new classification to characterize and predict treatment of acetabular bone defects.
The increasing amount of revision surgeries in total hip arthroplasty (THA) represents a burden for orthopedic surgeons given the complexity and unpredictability of this kind of surgery. The aim of the current study was to develop a new radiographic classification of acetabular bone defects stratify the severity of the lesion and to suggest the surgical strategy to address it. ⋯ The newly proposed classification was able to characterize the extent of acetabular bone defects and predict pre-operatively the appropriate surgical treatment strategy in 87.3% of cases. It showed a strong agreement among raters and an almost perfect agreement among different measurements at 1 month distance. This new tool could be used in the preoperative assessment to drive the use of secondary level image examinations and the type of surgical management.

Mid- to long-term functional outcome and return to sport after elbow dislocation in bouldering: a clinical retrospective cohort study.
Traumatic elbow dislocations are among the most common injuries in sport climbing. They occur most frequently in bouldering (a climbing discipline with strong upward trend often performed indoors) due to the typical low-height backward fall into crashpads. There is still no data about the functional outcome and return to sport of this typical bouldering injury. ⋯ Most athletes are able to return to bouldering but only two thirds regain their pre-injury performance level in this demanding upper-extremity sport. The unique low-height trauma mechanism may create a false sense of security. Specific awareness and safety features should be placed for climbing athletes to reduce elbow injuries.

The surgical learning curve for percutaneous Zadek osteotomy for treatment of insertional achilles tendinopathy.
The Zadek Osteotomy has been described as an effective technique for the treatment of insertional Achilles tendinopathy. Recently, this strategy has been modified using minimally invasive techniques. A learning curve has been observed in many minimally invasive procedures in foot and ankle surgery. This retrospective study first intended to evaluate if there is a learning curve associated with the percutaneous Zadek Osteotomy. Further, if a learning curve was observed, we planned to assess the data for associated changes in complications and postoperative outcomes. ⋯ Data will not be deposited in a repository.

Local recurrence rates of superficial versus deep soft tissue sarcoma.
Soft tissue sarcomas are a group of malignancies that commonly occur in the extremities. As deep lesions may exist within the confines of the muscular fascia, we postulate that local recurrence rates are higher for superficial soft tissue sarcomas managed by the standard of care. ⋯ In this series, superficial tumor depth was associated with local recurrence of soft tissue sarcomas of the extremity following surgical resection. Positive surgical margins was also associated with local recurrence.

The impact of prior ACL reconstruction on total knee arthroplasty outcomes: a retrospective matched cohort study.
Discrepant data exists regarding the outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with a prior anterior cruciate reconstruction (ACLR). The purpose of our study was to compare surgical and medical outcomes in the patients with prior ACLR undergoing TKAs compared to a matched control group of the patients who had undergone TKAs without prior ACLR. We hypothesized that the patients with prior ACLR would have inferior clinical outcomes. ⋯ These results differed from our expectations. Within the limitations of the study, we are unable to determine the factors for the lower complications in the ACLR-TKA group. The data from this study are different from what had been reported in the previous studies.
