Characterization of the healing process in non-stabilized and stabilized femur fractures in mice.
Although a variety of suitable fracture models for mice exist, in many studies bone healing was still analyzed without fracture stabilization. Because there is little information whether the healing of non-stabilized fractures differs from that of stabilized fractures, we herein studied the healing process of non-stabilized compared to stabilized femur fractures. ⋯ Non-stabilized femur fractures in mice show a marked delay in bone healing compared to stabilized fractures. Therefore, non-stabilized fracture models may not be used to analyze the mechanisms of normal bone healing.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyFifth metacarpal neck fractures treated with soft wrap/buddy taping compared to reduction and casting: results of a prospective, multicenter, randomized trial.
The majority of fifth metacarpal neck fractures (boxers fracture) are treated conservatively without surgery. The purpose of this prospective, randomized, multicenter trial was to determine if the outcomes of soft wrap and buddy taping (SW) was noninferior to reduction and cast (RC) in boxer's fracture with palmar angulation ≤70° and no rotational deformity. ⋯ This study supports the use of soft wrap and buddy taping for treatment of boxer's fracture with palmar angulation ≤70° and no rotational deformity. Although there was no statistical difference in satisfaction with the esthetic appearance, the patient must be willing to accept the loss of the "knuckle" with this treatment method.

Review Case ReportsMosaicplasty for the treatment of a large traumatic osteochondral femoral head lesion: a case report with 2 year follow-up and review of the literature.
Different joint-preserving techniques have been described for the treatment of traumatic osteochondral lesions of the femoral head especially in young active patients. Mosaicplasty with autologous transplantation of osteochondral cylinders is an established surgical technique in the knee. ⋯ Grafts were taken from the ipsilateral knee. After 2 years, the outcome was satisfactory with partial return to previous activity level.

Multicenter StudyValidation of a German version of the International Hip Outcome Tool (G-iHOT33) according to the COSMIN checklist: how much improvement is clinically relevant?
The evaluation of the subjective health-related quality of life is especially for young, active patients with hip joint disorders important. The MAHORN study group has recently developed the "International Hip Outcome Tool" (iHOT33), a self-administered patient-reported outcome tool, which includes questions on the patient's symptoms, functional and sports limitations as well as social, emotional, and occupational limitations. The purpose of this study was to adapt and validate a German version of the iHOT33 according to the COSMIN checklist. ⋯ The German translation of the iHOT-33 (G-iHOT-33) is a viable tool for the evaluation of active patients with a hip disorder. Following the complete COSMIN checklist, we could prove that G-iHOT33 is a reliable, valid, and responsive PRO measurement tool. We could show that the minimal important change, a change of health condition the patient discerns is 10 points in the G-iHOT33 scale. This is the first study providing results on psychometric properties of the iHOT33 subscales. Level of evidence 1b validating cohort study.

ReviewPrognostic factors and therapeutic options for treatment of frozen shoulder: a systematic review.
To evaluate the current status of scientific research on the natural history of frozen shoulder as published in the literature. ⋯ Spontaneous recovery to normal levels of function is possible and standardised non-operative treatment programmes are an effective alternative to surgery in most cases. However, patients with high risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, and those who suffer chronic symptoms or bilaterally affected, would benefit from early surgery. We also concluded that AMQPP score is simple and straight forward. It works as a quick quality-checking tool which helps researchers to identify the key points in each paper and reach a decision regarding the eligibility of the paper more easily. The AMQPP score is still open for further development.
