Case ReportsOsteochondral allograft reconstruction of talar body fracture with a large bone defect.
Talar body fractures are rare and associated with a high rate of morbidity due to poor vascularity and the frequent occurrence of posttraumatic osteoarthritis. If talar body fractures are combined with a large bone defect, the situation becomes even more challenging due to difficult joint reconstruction. ⋯ Osteochondral bulk allografts can be used as an alternative to tibiotalar arthrodesis for the treatment of talar body fractures with large bone defects, especially in young patients. Here, we report a case of a talar body fracture associated with a large talar bone defect involving the posterior process that was treated by fresh-frozen osteochondral allograft for tibiotalar reconstruction in foot injuries.

Direct and indirect costs of surgically treated pelvic fractures.
Pelvic fractures requiring surgical fixation are rare injuries but present a great societal impact in terms of disability, as well as economic resources. In the literature, there is no description of these costs. Main aim of this study is to describe the direct and indirect costs of these fractures. Secondary aims were to test if the type of fracture (pelvic ring injury or acetabular fracture) influences these costs (hospitalization, consultation, medication, physiotherapy sessions, job absenteeism). ⋯ Pelvic fractures are associated with both high direct costs and substantial productivity loss.

Validation of the German Forgotten Joint Score (G-FJS) according to the COSMIN checklist: does a reduction in joint awareness indicate clinical improvement after arthroplasty of the knee?
Evaluation of further improvement in treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee requires measurement tools with a high discriminatory power. In this context, joint awareness in everyday life is seen as crucial criterion. Purpose of this study was to adapt and validate a German version of the "Forgotten Joint Score" (FJS) according to the COSMIN checklist. ⋯ Validating cohort study, Level 1b.

Development and initial evaluation of a point-of-care educational app on medical topics in orthogeriatrics.
Research by AOTrauma's orthogeriatrics education taskforce identified ongoing educational needs for surgeons and trainees worldwide regarding the medical management of older adults with a fracture. To address practicing surgeons' preference for increased use of mobile learning, a point-of-care educational app was planned by a committee of experienced faculty. The goals were to deliver the app to surgeons, trainees, and other healthcare professionals, to measure usage, and to evaluate the impact on patient care. ⋯ The orthogeriatrics app reached its intended audiences and was rated highly as a method of providing education to help improve patient care. Content input by experienced faculty and app improvements based on user feedback were key contributors to successful implementation.

Treatment strategies for partial chronic instability of the distal syndesmosis: an arthroscopic grading scale and operative staging concept.
The aim of this study was to evaluate three different anatomical reconstruction techniques for the partial chronic isolated instability of the syndesmosis based on own arthroscopic classification criteria. ⋯ Depending on the arthroscopic classification of the partial chronic instability of the syndesmosis, the three different anatomical reconstruction techniques potentially provide appropriate treatment options based on the grade of injury.
