Plate augmentation for femoral nonunion: more than just a salvage tool?
The aim of the current study was to determine whether plate augmentation was a successful treatment algorithm for selected femoral nonunions initially managed with intramedullary nailing. ⋯ Plate augmentation should be added to the armamentarium for management of selected femoral nonunion that have failed initial intramedullary nailing.

Multicenter StudyGraft tensioning practices in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction amongst orthopaedic surgeons in Australia: a national survey.
The application of graft tension during anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is considered an important feature of ACLR. However, wide variation exists in relation to graft tensioning practice limiting the ability to determine the best approach. Thus, the primary aim of this study was to describe current clinical practice amongst Australian orthopaedic surgeons with respect to graft tensioning and explore influencing factors. ⋯ Tensioning practices appear to consist of three main approaches, (1) manual tension using a sustained maximum one-handed pull, with tension estimated as 41-60 N, applied near full extension, (2) tensioning device, mean tension of 81.85 N, at 30° knee flexion, (3) individual approach based on size and viscoelastic properties of the graft, patient anthropometry, contralateral comparison to the other knee and age of the patient.

Multicenter StudyEarly effects of vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty versus conservative treatment of vertebral compression fractures in elderly polytrauma patients.
This study aims to assess the early effects of operatively and nonoperatively managed vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) in elderly polytrauma patients. ⋯ For VCFs in elderly polytrauma patients, VP or KP can reduce length of hospital stay and complications, especially bed rest complication compared with nonoperative treatment.

Dual mini-fragment plating for midshaft clavicle fractures: a clinical and biomechanical investigation.
We sought to evaluate clinical and biomechanical outcomes of dual mini-fragment plate fixation for clavicle fractures. We hypothesized that this technique would produce an anatomical reduction with good clinical outcomes, be well tolerated by patients, and demonstrate equivalent biomechanics to single plating. ⋯ Displaced midshaft clavicle fractures can be effectively managed with dual mini-fragment plating. This technique results in high union rates and excellent clinical outcomes. Compared to single plating, dual plating is biomechanically equivalent in axial loading and torsion, yet offers better multi-planar bending stiffness despite the use of smaller plates. This technique may decrease the need for secondary surgery due to implant prominence and may aid in fracture reduction by buttressing butterfly fragments in two planes.

Glenohumeral range of motion (ROM) and isometric strength of professional team handball athletes, part III: changes over the playing season.
The aim of our study was to investigate the relation of workload on range of motion and isometric strength of team handball athletes' shoulders over a competitive season. ⋯ Several characteristics of handball players' shoulders changed significantly from the beginning to the end of a season. More specifically, the repetitive forces accumulated during the competitive season resulted in altered GIRD, ERG and isometric strength of the dominant glenohumeral joint.
