Urinary incontinence and poor functional status in fragility fracture patients: an underrecognized and underappreciated association.
Urinary incontinence (UI) affects some 20 % of community-dwelling older people and 30-60 % of people in institutional care. UI is known as an independent predictor of falls, and likely impacts fracture rates. The aim of the study was to measure the prevalence of UI in a typical fragility fracture population, to evaluate the relationship of UI with functional disability in the post-acute setting. ⋯ This study confirms the high prevalence of UI in older fragility fracture patients, and the association between UI and functional impairments. The diagnostic work-up and treatment of patients should be focused on the special needs of these older patients. More efforts are needed to increase awareness about prevalence and consequences of UI among older fragility fracture patients.

Determinants of patient satisfaction after surgery or corticosteroid injection for trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis: results of a prospective cohort study.
The evaluation of patient satisfaction is becoming increasingly important in assessing treatment outcomes. The objective of this study was to analyze the determinants of treatment satisfaction in patients with trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis (TMC OA) after surgery or corticosteroid injection. ⋯ Surgery for TMC OA leads to high patient satisfaction, whereas only half of the patients treated with corticosteroid injection were satisfied with the treatment result. An advanced stage of TMC OA and higher pain lead to reduced treatment satisfaction in the latter group, indicating that corticosteroid injection is only effective for patients in a lower stage of disease. As fulfillment of expectations was an important determinant of satisfaction in the surgical group, we emphasize the need to provide comprehensive information prior to surgery, so that the patient's expectations of treatment outcome are realistic.

Crisscross-type screw fixation for transcondylar fractures of distal humerus in elderly patients.
This study presents the outcomes of low transcondylar fractures of the distal humerus treated by closed reduction and internal fixation with two screws in a crisscross orientation. ⋯ In geriatric patients with transcondylar fractures of the distal humerus, a crisscross fixation with two cannulated screws provides satisfactory results that allow a nearly full range of elbow motion with minimal surgical morbidity.

Arthroscopy-assisted reconstruction of coracoclavicular ligament by Endobutton fixation for treatment of acromioclavicular joint dislocation.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of arthroscopy-assisted reconstruction of the coracoclavicular (CC) ligament using Endobutton for treating acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation. ⋯ Arthroscopy-assisted reconstruction of the coracoclavicular ligament by Endobutton fixation is a safe, easy method for treating AC joint dislocation. It provides reliable fixation, causes little trauma, and has a fast recovery.

Soft tissue injury of the shoulder after single non-dislocating trauma: prevalence and spectrum of intraoperative findings during shoulder arthroscopy and treatment results.
The purpose of our study was to present the spectrum and prevalence of intraarticular lesions in patients with shoulder pain after a single non-dislocating shoulder trauma and to evaluate the clinical results according to pathology and workers' compensation status. ⋯ Case series (Level IV).
