Long-term prognosis of nerve palsy after total hip arthroplasty: results of two-year-follow-ups and long-term results after a mean time of 8 years.
Nerve damage is a rare but serious complication after THA. There exist only little data about the outcome of these patients particularly regarding the long-term results later than 2 years postoperatively. Aim of this study is to answer the following questions: Is the recovery to be expected for light nerve lesions different from the severe ones? Is there a possibility of nerve recovery more than 2 years after THA? Is the potential of nerve recovery depending on the affected nerve? ⋯ In contrast to the literature, an improvement beyond the limit of 2 years is probable and independent of the nerve affected.

Arthroscopic Broström repair with Gould augmentation via an accessory anterolateral port for lateral instability of the ankle.
Although several arthroscopic surgical techniques for the treatment of lateral instability of the ankle have been introduced recently, some concern remains over their procedural complexity, complications, and unclear clinical outcomes. We have simplified the arthroscopic technique of Broström repair with Gould augmentation. ⋯ The inferior extensor retinaculum is directly visualized through the accessory anterolateral port and is attached to the fibula with another suture anchor under arthroscopic view via the anterolateral port. The use of two small ports offers a procedure that is simple to perform and less morbid for patients.

Review Meta AnalysisThe use of pneumatic tourniquet in total knee arthroplasty: a meta-analysis.
Pneumatic tourniquet use in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is always a controversial issue. The aim of the present study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of its use in patients receiving primary unilateral TKA, and to explore the most safe and effective protocols. ⋯ Our results indicate that tourniquet application could reduce surgical time, intraoperative blood loss and total blood loss, but increases postoperative total blood loss. With respect to postoperative complications, DVT and surgical site infection rates are relatively augmented in the tourniquet group.

Comparative StudyComparing the outcomes between Chopart, Lisfranc and multiple metatarsal shaft fractures.
Complex midfoot injuries could lead to severe functional impairment of mobility and quality of daily living. Aim of this study was to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of Chopart, Lisfranc fractures and multiple metatarsal shaft fractures. ⋯ Level IV.

ReviewReturn to play following ACL reconstruction: a systematic review about strength deficits.
There is a lack of consensus regarding appropriate criteria attesting patients' unrestricted sports activities after ACL reconstruction. Purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review about strength deficits to find out if a strength test might be a return to play criterion. ⋯ Strength deficits of hip, knee and ankle muscles are reported after ACL reconstruction. Muscular strength test may be an important tool to determine if an athlete can return to competitive sports after ACL reconstruction.
