Predicting patient satisfaction using the Oxford knee score: where do we draw the line?
The aim of this study was to identify threshold values in the pre- and post-operative Oxford knee score (OKS), and change in the score for differing levels of patient satisfaction with their total knee replacement (TKR). ⋯ The threshold values, we have identified for the different levels of satisfaction using the post-operative OKS, which is the most accurate predictor, can be used to predict level of patient satisfaction and give quantification of the OKS.

Randomized Controlled TrialIs routine chemoprophylaxis necessary for prevention of venous thromboembolism following knee arthroplasty in a low incidence population?
Standard thromboprophylaxis guidelines have not been applied universally in regions with low incidence of deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) considering risks of chemoprophylaxis and low incidence itself. We evaluated the prevalence of DVT, efficacy and safety of chemoprophylaxis, and necessity of pharmacological prevention in a low DVT incidence population. ⋯ There remains low incidence of VTE following TKA in East Asians even without chemoprophylaxis. Although short-term fondaparinux protocol could reduce the incidence of overall DVT, its routine use seems debatable due to extremely rare proximal DVT and symptomatic PE and drug-related bleeding complication. However, modified and selective use of chemoprophylaxis would be considerable in high risk patients.

Comparative StudyArthroscopic transtibial single-bundle posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using patellar tendon graft compared with hamstring tendon graft.
The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of arthroscopic transtibial single-bundle posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using autologous patellar tendon and hamstring tendon grafts. ⋯ Several shortcomings, including anterior knee pain, squatting pain, kneeling pain and osteoarthritic change, have to be concerned when using patellar tendon autograft. In conclusion, hamstring tendon autograft may be a better choice for transtibial tunnel PCL reconstruction.

ReviewPercutaneous computed tomography-guided resection of non-spinal osteoid osteomas in 54 patients and review of the literature.
Osteoid osteoma is a benign osteoblastic tumor with a nidus of <20 mm in maximum diameter. There are several treatment options, all of them aiming either to resect or to eliminate the nidus. ⋯ Percutaneous computed tomography-guided resection of non-spinal osteoid osteomas provides good results, similar to other surgical techniques, with the advantages of being a simple, mini invasive, safe and economic procedure without the need for specific materials. Level of evidence, IV.

Review Case ReportsBifocal disruption of the knee extensor mechanism: a case report and literature review.
Bifocal disruption of the knee extensor mechanism is a rare injury. Bifocal proximal and distal avulsion fracture of the patella tendon is extremely rare in adults. Here, the authors report the case of an 84-year-old male patient who developed simultaneous avulsion fracture of the patella tendon from the inferior pole of the patella and the tibial tuberosity. Open reduction and internal fixation were performed, and at 12 months postoperatively, an excellent functional result was obtained.
