Influence of anthropometric features on graft diameter in ACL reconstruction.
There is a paucity of literature regarding the influence of anthropometric features on the hamstring graft obtained in ACL reconstruction. This study was undertaken to assess the influence of anthropometric measurements on the graft diameter obtained at ACL reconstruction surgery within the European population. We hypothesise that anthropometric features do influence graft thickness in ACL reconstruction. ⋯ Although body mass index did not significantly correlate, body height may be a predictive variable in predicting the graft diameter in ACL reconstruction and provide useful pre operative information.

Clinical and radiological outcomes of spinal cord injury without radiologic evidence of trauma with cervical disc herniation.
To verify the relationship between neurologic deficit after spinal cord injury without radiologic evidence of trauma (SCIWORET) and coexisting cervical disc herniation (CDH). ⋯ CDH in most patients with SCIWORET likely occurred before rather than after trauma. CDH caused more severe cord compression but did not aggravate the neurologic injury. The extent of MSCC had no association with the initial neurologic deficit or final recovery.

Outcome after severe brain trauma associated with epidural hematoma.
The aim of this study was to identify factors contributing to outcomes after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) associated with epidural hematoma (EDH). ⋯ Of the 738 patients with severe TBI 159 (21.5 %) had EDH. Of these, 49 (30.8 %) died in the hospital, 21 (13.2 %) survived with unfavorable outcome, 82 (51.6 %) with favorable outcome; long-term outcome was unknown in 7 survivors (4.4 %). Mortality rates predicted by the Rotterdam score showed good correlation with observed mortality rates. According to the Hukkelhoven scores, observed/predicted ratios for mortality and unfavorable outcome were 0.94 and 0.97, respectively. Age, severity of TBI, and neurological status were the main factors influencing outcomes after severe TBI associated with EDH. We were unable to demonstrate significant effects of treatment factors.

Open arthrolysis and hinged external fixation for posttraumatic ankylosed elbows.
An ankylosed elbow is defined as an elbow having a range of motion of 0°. Movement is extremely limited. This study retrospectively analyzes the results of arthrolysis and hinged external fixation performed on 15 patients suffering from ankylosed elbows. ⋯ Open arthrolysis and monolateral hinged external fixation are effective in treating posttraumatic ankylosed elbow. Arthrolysis should be performed by a combination of lateral and medial approaches. In addition, routine hinged external fixation and anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve may improve the postoperative recovery of elbow stiffness.
