Compartment syndrome in dislocation and non-dislocation type proximal tibia fractures: analysis of 356 consecutive cases.
Dislocation type proximal tibia fractures are associated with the major soft tissue injuries. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence of compartment syndrome (CS) in proximal tibia fractures in relation to the fracture type, i.e., dislocation versus non-dislocation type. We further analyzed CS within the non-dislocation type injuries, initial treatment modality as well as infection rate relative to the treatment policies (one- or two-staged procedures). ⋯ The incidence for CS did not differ between the dislocation and non-dislocation type group, but a significant difference was found comparing the incidence for CS only in the non-dislocation type group.

Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis using anterior-inferior plating of clavicular midshaft fractures.
This study evaluated the clinical and radiological outcomes of acute displaced clavicular midshaft fractures treated with minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). ⋯ MIPO using anterior-inferior plating for acute displaced clavicular midshaft fractures provided satisfactory clinical outcomes without serious complications and could be an effective alternative option to conventional operative treatments.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialHook plate fixation for acromioclavicular joint separations restores coracoclavicular distance more accurately than PDS augmentation, however presents with a high rate of acromial osteolysis.
Hook plate fixation of acromioclavicular (AC) joint separations carries the disadvantage of compulsory implant removal, occasional implant fatigue and secondary loss of reduction. This study compares the clinical and radiological outcome of a new polyaxial angular stable hook plate (HP) with absorbable polydioxansulfate (PDS) sling. ⋯ Hook plate fixation employing a polyaxial angular stable plate finally restores the coracoclavicular distance more accurately than augmentation with a PDS sling. Although in HP group no implant failure occurred, major disadvantages are initial overcorrection and acromial osteolysis. Both have no influence on final functional results.

Clinical TrialCombined tears of the subscapularis and supraspinatus tendon: clinical outcome, rotator cuff strength and structural integrity following open repair.
Anterosuperior rotator cuff tears involving the subscapularis and supraspinatus tendons are less common than other tears of the rotator cuff. The purpose of this study was to report the clinical outcome, rotator cuff strength and structural integrity of open repair of combined anterosuperior rotator cuff tears. ⋯ Open repair of combined anterosuperior rotator cuff tears achieved good postoperative results despite a residual rotator cuff strength deficit. Combined supraspinatus-/full-thickness subscapularis tears achieved equal clinical and radiographic results compared with supraspinatus-/partial-thickness subscapularis tears.
