Multicenter StudyAKI Treated with Renal Replacement Therapy in Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19.
AKI is a common sequela of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, few studies have focused on AKI treated with RRT (AKI-RRT). ⋯ AKI-RRT is common among critically ill patients with COVID-19 and is associated with a hospital mortality rate of >60%. Among those who survive to discharge, one in three still depends on RRT at discharge, and one in six remains RRT dependent 60 days after ICU admission.

Observational StudyShort or Long Sleep Duration and CKD: A Mendelian Randomization Study.
Studies have found sleeping behaviors, such as sleep duration, to be associated with kidney function and cardiovascular disease risk. However, whether short or long sleep duration is a causative factor for kidney function impairment has been rarely studied. ⋯ These findings support an adverse effect of a short sleep duration on kidney function. Clinicians may encourage patients to avoid short-duration sleeping behavior to reduce CKD risk.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA Randomized Trial on the Effect of Phosphate Reduction on Vascular End Points in CKD (IMPROVE-CKD).
Hyperphosphatemia is associated with increased fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), arterial calcification, and cardiovascular mortality. PKD1-Dependent Renal Cystogenesis in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Ureteric Bud/Collecting Duct Organoids.
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary kidney disease leading to renal failure, wherein multiple cysts form in renal tubules and collecting ducts derived from distinct precursors: the nephron progenitor and ureteric bud (UB), respectively. Recent progress in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) biology has enabled cyst formation in nephron progenitor-derived human kidney organoids in which PKD1 or PKD2, the major causative genes for ADPKD, are deleted. However, cysts have not been generated in UB organoids, despite the prevalence of collecting duct cysts in patients with ADPKD. ⋯ Cysts form in PKD1 mutant UB organoids as well as in iPSCs derived from a patient with ADPKD. The organoids provide a robust model of the genesis of ADPKD.
