A prospective study of maternal prenatal weight and offspring cardiometabolic health in midchildhood.
To examine the relations of maternal prepregnancy body mass index (ppBMI) and gestational weight gain (GWG) with offspring cardiometabolic health. ⋯ Children born to heavier mothers have more overall and central fat and greater cardiometabolic risk. Offspring of women with higher GWG had greater adiposity and higher leptin.

Mediators of the association between parental severe mental illness and offspring neurodevelopmental problems.
Parental severe mental illness (SMI) is associated with an increased risk of offspring autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We conducted a study to examine the extent to which risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, and small for gestational age mediated this association. ⋯ Parental SMI and adverse pregnancy outcomes appear to be independent risk factors for offspring ASD and ADHD.

Limited validity of diagnosis codes in Medicare claims for identifying cancer metastases and inferring stage.
Researchers are using diagnosis codes from health claims to identify metastatic disease in cancer patients. The validity of this approach has not been established. ⋯ Diagnosis codes in Medicare claims have limited validity for inferring cancer stage and metastatic disease.
