Observational StudyPelvic floor muscle function and quality of life in postmenopausal women with and without pelvic floor dysfunction.
This study aims to compare pelvic floor muscle (PFM) function in postmenopausal women with and without pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) and the relation between PFM function and quality of life. ⋯ PFM function assessed by bidigital palpation in postmenopausal women was not sufficiently sensitive to differentiate between women with vs. women without PFM dysfunction and was not related with specific quality of life in women with urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, respectively. These data should be used to reinforce the widespread recommendation that PFM training is essencial in PFD treatment.

Brainstem auditory abnormality in extremely premature babies and the impact of neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Extremely premature babies, particularly those who have neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia, are at risk of brain damage and neurodevelopmental impairment. This study aimed to examine functional status of the brainstem auditory pathway in extremely premature babies and assess the impact of bronchopulmonary dysplasia on function. ⋯ Extremely premature babies have functional impairment of the brainstem auditory pathway. The impairment is clearly more significant in those with bronchopulmonary dysplasia than those without bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia and associated unfavorable conditions are major contributors to brainstem auditory impairment in extremely premature babies.

Trends in readmission rate by route of hysterectomy - a single-center experience.
The aim of this study was to assess the 60-day readmission rates after hysterectomy according to route of surgery and analyze risk factors for postoperative readmission. ⋯ The laparoscopic approach to hysterectomy was associated with fewer hospital readmissions compared with the abdominal route; vaginal, robotic and abdominal approaches had a similar risk of readmission. Perioperative complications represent the main driver of readmissions. After adjusting for perioperative factors such as surgeon type and complications, no difference in readmissions between the different routes of hysterectomy were found.

Delineating the association between mode of delivery and postpartum depression symptoms: a longitudinal study.
Although a number of perinatal factors have been implicated in the etiology of postpartum depression, the role of mode of delivery remains controversial. Our aim was to explore the association between mode of delivery and postpartum depression, considering the potentially mediating or confounding role of several covariates. ⋯ Mode of delivery has no direct impact on risk of postpartum depression; nevertheless, several modifiable or non-modifiable mediators are present in this association. Women delivering in an emergency setting by emergency cesarean section or vacuum extraction, and reporting negatively experienced delivery, constitute a high-risk group for postpartum depression.

ReviewDiagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in detecting the severity of abnormally invasive placentation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Our objective was to elucidate the overall diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in detecting the severity of abnormally invasive placentation (AIP). ⋯ Ultrasound has an overall good diagnostic accuracy in recognizing the depth and the topography of placental invasion.
