Non-medical determinants of cesarean section in a medically dominated maternity system.
To assess the contribution of non-medical factors to actual mode of delivery in a setting with high cesarean rates. ⋯ The results of this questionnaire survey contribute to the already existing evidence that against the background of high cesarean rates, non-medical factors, as much related to the obstetricians as to pregnant women's attitudes, play an important role.

Is there an association between sonographically determined occipito-transverse position in the second stage of labor and operative delivery?
To evaluate if ultrasound-determined occipito-transverse position early in the second stage of labor is associated with operative delivery. ⋯ The occipito-transverse position early in the second stage of labor was associated with an increased operative delivery rate.

Effect of socioeconomic position on patient outcome after hysterectomy.
To investigate the association between socioeconomic position (assessed by education, employment and income) and complications following hysterectomy and assess the role of lifestyle, co-morbidity and clinical conditions on the relationship. ⋯ Women with a low socioeconomic position have significantly higher odds of complications following hysterectomy compared with women with a high socioeconomic position. Unhealthy lifestyle and presence of co-morbidity in women with low socioeconomic position partially explains the differences in complications.

Case ReportsPeripartum heart failure caused by left ventricular diastolic dysfunction: a case report.
Peripartum cardiomyopathy is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition. The current definition of peripartum cardiomyopathy only includes patients with systolic dysfunction. We describe a 25-year-old nulligravid patient with heart failure, i.e. left ventricular diastolic dysfunction with preserved systolic dysfunction during the third trimester of pregnancy. ⋯ The patient responded to therapy for heart failure and showed resolution of her diastolic dysfunction by 1 month postpartum. The case demonstrated the important role of diastolic dysfunction in peripartum heart failure and the possibility of clarifying the pathophysiology of peripartum cardiomyopathy by evaluating diastolic function. Further investigations are needed to provide evidence regarding the clinical role of diastolic dysfunction in peripartum heart failure.
