Adaptation and validation of the chronic otitis media questionnaire 12 (COMQ-12) in the Mexican Spanish language (COMQ-12-Mx).
Background: Chronic otitis media (COM) questionnaire 12 (COMQ-12) is a specific-disease tool that evaluates COM patients. Objective: To validate COMQ-12 in the Mexican Spanish language (COMQ-12-Mx). Materials and methods: Mexican Spanish-speaking healthy volunteers and COM patients who attended a Secondary Care Center from May 2019 to October 2019. ⋯ Group 1 COMQ-12-Mx score was 22.108 ± 11.79, group 2 score was 3.561 ± 4.399 (p ≤ .001) and group 3 score was 3.683 ± 4.435. Cronbach's alpha was 0.828 and test-retest reliability achieved a 0.928 outcome. Conclusions: COMQ-12-Mx is a valid and reliable tool to evaluate quality life in Mexican Spanish-speaking patients with COM.

Repair effect of xenogeneic acellular dermal matrix during external auditory canal reconstruction after canal wall down mastoidectomy.
Background: In some cases, there is insufficient external auditory canal (EAC) skin to cover the reconstructed canal wall after canal wall down (CWD) mastoidectomy. Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) can help to repair the skin, mucosa and other epidermal tissue defects. Aims: To investigate the repair effect of xenogeneic ADM (xeno-ADM) for EAC skin defects. ⋯ The postoperative epithelialization time was 5.8 ± 1.6 weeks, and the number of dressing changes was 4.8 ± 1.6 times. There was no xeno-ADM rejection and related complications, the postoperative hearing improvement was statistically significant (p = .013). Conclusions and Significance: Xeno-ADM could be a safe, effective and simple method for repairing skin defect in the reconstruction of EAC after CWD mastoidectomy.

Clinical utility of 18F-FDG PET/CT for patients with recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
Background: The accurate detection of distant metastases can facilitate appropriate treatment planning for patients with recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Objectives: We evaluated the role of 18F-FDG PET/CT for distant metastasis diagnosis and survival prediction in patients with recurrent HNSCC. Materials and methods: This study included 95 consecutive patients with recurrent HNSCC and salvage treatments. ⋯ After controlling for clinicopathological factors, a recurrent lesion with maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) >8.7 was identified as an independent predictor of poor overall survival (p = .001). Conclusions and significance:18F-FDG PET/CT or conventional imaging is comparable with regard to detecting distant metastases of recurrent HNSCC. However, 18F-FDG PET/CT may detect additional metastatic lesions in unusual distant sites and the recurrent lesion SUVmax may predict patient survival after salvage treatments.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of anterior and posterior tympanomeatal flap elevations in endoscopic transcanal tympanoplasty.
Background: There is not an ideal tympanomeatal flap incision type for transcanal procedures. Aims/Objectives: Comparing the outcomes and feasibility of posteriorly and anteriorly based tympanomeatal flap incisions for anterior perforations in endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty. Material and methods: Twenty-six patients who had anterior TM perforation were included. ⋯ Mean air bone gap level improvement of (dB HL) at all frequencies was 7.69 ± 2.83 dB HL in group 1 and 7.98 ± 3.08 dB HL in group 2 respectively. Regarding pre-and postoperative mean air bone gap levels and mean surgery times, there was no significant difference between groups (p>.05). Conclusions and significance: For non-complicated anterior perforations that are less than 50% of TM, endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty using anterior tympanomeatal flap elevation procedure was seemed minimally invasive and feasible to perform with successful audiologic and postoperative outcomes.

Improvement of otoendoscopic surgery for epitympanic cholesteatoma invading the mastoid.
In recent years, the otoendoscopic surgery for epitympanic cholesteatoma has achieved great development, but it still has some disadvantages. ⋯ We improved existing otoendoscopic surgery to reduce or avoid bony defects of the acoustic meatus, and then decreased the proportion of canal-down surgery.
