Effect of gender on in vivo cartilage magnetic resonance imaging T2 mapping.
To determine if gender is a significant variable for in vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2-mapping of knee articular cartilage in young asymptomatic volunteers. ⋯ In young, healthy volunteers, the magnitude and spatial dependency of cartilage T2 does not differ with gender.

Quantification of T(2) relaxation changes in articular cartilage with in situ mechanical loading of the knee.
To devise a method for producing in vivo MRI images of the knee under physiologically significant loading, and to compare and evaluate the changes in cartilage characteristics before and during in situ compression of the knee. ⋯ The results establish the feasibility of measuring changes on MRI with in situ axial loading.

Comparative StudyComparison of conventional fast spin echo, single-shot two-dimensional and three-dimensional half-fourier RARE for T2-weighted female pelvic imaging.
To evaluate the usefulness of the three-dimensional half-Fourier RARE sequence in comparison with single-shot two-dimensional half-Fourier RARE and conventional fast spin echo (FSE) for female pelvic imaging. ⋯ The three-dimensional half-Fourier RARE sequence generates images with higher contrast and better image resolution than two-dimensional-RARE. The three-dimensional data set provided images that can be observed in any orientation without acquiring an additional scan by using the multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) method.

Clinical TrialMR-guided radiofrequency ablation of hepatic malignancies at 1.5 T: initial results.
To assess the feasibility of magnetic resonance (MR)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of hepatic malignancies using a high-field MR scanner. ⋯ MR-guided RFA of hepatic malignancies in a closed-bore high-field MR scanner is technically feasible and safe. It can be advantageous in locations considered unfavorable for CT-guided puncture or in patients in which iodinated contrast material is contraindicated.

Comparative StudyLimits of 8-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging spatial resolution of the deoxygenated cerebral microvasculature.
To quantify the minimum magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) spatial resolution of the visible deoxygenated microscopic vessels of the human brain at 8 T. ⋯ By taking advantage of magnetic susceptibility-based blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) contrast, deoxygenated microscopic blood vessels smaller than the pixel dimensions used for imaging can be visualized using a whole-body 8-T MRI system.
