Measurement of liver fat content using selective saturation at 3.0 T.
To validate an MRI technique for measuring liver fat content by calibrating MRI readings with liver phantoms and comparing MRI measurements in human subjects with estimates of liver fat content on liver biopsy specimens. ⋯ We validated a technique for quantifying liver fat content based on selective fat and water imaging. The technique is accurate and reproducible and provides a noninvasive method to obtain serial measurements of liver fat content in human subjects.

Submillimeter isotropic resolution carotid wall MRI with swallowing compensation: imaging results and semiautomated wall morphometry.
To assess a swallowing-compensated, three-dimensional (3D) diffusion-prepared segmented steady-state free precession (3D Nav-D-SSFP) technique for carotid wall MRI with 0.6-mm isotropic spatial resolution, and its utility for semiautomated carotid wall morphometry. ⋯ 3D Nav-D-SSFP is a time-efficient, swallowing-compensated, black-blood technique that lends itself for semiautomated measurements of carotid WA and LA that are in good agreement with manual measurements.

Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialDifferentiation of SCA2 from MSA-C using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging.
To assess and compare biochemical and volumetric features of the cerebellum in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) and patients with the cerebellar variant of multiple system atrophy (MSA-C). ⋯ MRSI revealed Lac pathology in SCA2 but not in MSA-C. Whether this indicates distinct pathogenetic mechanisms of cerebellar degeneration remains to be established.

Comparative StudyMRI of the female pelvis at 3T compared to 1.5T: evaluation on high-resolution T2-weighted and HASTE images.
To evaluate the feasibility of MRI of the female pelvis using high-resolution T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and the half-Fourier acquisition single-shot turbo spin-echo (HASTE) technique at 3 Tesla (T) compared to 1.5T, while focusing on the uterine body and cervical anatomy. ⋯ Our results suggest that MRI of the female pelvis at 3T may potentially provide excellent images of the uterine cervix on high-resolution T2WI. New techniques to reduce inhomogeneity are thus called for.

Clinical TrialContrast-enhanced FLAIR imaging in combination with pre- and postcontrast magnetization transfer T1-weighted imaging: usefulness in the evaluation of brain metastases.
To assess whether the use of postcontrast fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging in combination with pre- and postcontrast magnetization transfer (MT) T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) can increase diagnostic confidence in the evaluation of brain metastases. ⋯ The addition of postcontrast FLAIR imaging to pre- and postcontrast MT-T1WI improves diagnostic confidence in evaluation of brain metastases.
