Comparative StudyDiffusion tensor imaging of the human optic nerve using a non-CPMG fast spin echo sequence.
To investigate the diffusion tensor properties of the human optic nerve in vivo using a non-Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) fast spin echo (FSE) sequence. ⋯ This non-CPMG-FSE sequence provides reliable diffusion-weighted images of the human optic nerve. This approach could potentially improve the diagnosis and management of optic nerve diseases or compression, such as optic neuritis, orbit tumors, and muscle hypertrophy.

Comparative StudyUsefulness of magnetic resonance imaging for evaluation of cardiovascular invasion: evaluation of sliding motion between thoracic mass and adjacent structures on cine MR images.
To determine the feasibility and usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for evaluating cardiovascular invasion of a thoracic mass by demonstrating the sliding motion between the mass and adjacent structures. ⋯ MRI can provide additional information and improve the accuracy of preoperative staging for predicting cardiovascular invasion of a thoracic mass by evaluating the sliding motion.

Comparative StudyMRI receiver frequency response as a contributor to Nyquist ghosting in echo planar imaging.
To study the frequency response characteristic of the MRI signal receiver system as a contributing factor to the formation of Nyquist ghosting in echo-planar imaging (EPI). ⋯ The results of this research may help reduce Nyquist ghosting in EPI studies when the imaging coil is not sufficiently loaded, such as in pediatric and phantom studies.

Comparative StudyComparison of 0.5-M Gd-DTPA with 1.0-M gadobutrol for magnetic resonance angiography of the supplying arteries of the spinal cord in thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm patients.
To prospectively compare 0.5-M gadopentetate dimeglumine (Gd-DTPA) with 1.0-M gadobutrol for contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) of the blood supplying arteries of the spinal cord in patients referred for open surgical repair of a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA). ⋯ Using both contrast agents it was possible to visualize the ultrasmall spinal cord arteries in all cases. The use of the 1.0-M contrast agent did not improve image quality of CE-MRA images of the blood supplying arteries of the spinal cord compared to the 0.5-M contrast agent.

To investigate the effectiveness of slab-selective inversion in pulsed arterial spin labeling with body coil excitation as a means to reduce large vessel contamination of the perfusion signal. ⋯ The data suggest that it is advantageous to replace nonselective global tagging in FAIR perfusion imaging with body coil excitation by spatially-confined tagging to reduce undesired residual tagged blood in large vessels.
