Review[Multimodal pain therapy in Germany: structure and quality].
Multimodal Pain Management is a comprehensive treatment of complex chronic pain syndromes. In addition to medical therapy various other specialized therapeutical interventions based on the biopsychosocial model of pain origin and chronic pain development are added. Medical indications are given for patients with chronic pain syndromes, but also if there is an elevated risk of chronic pain in the early stadium of the disease and aiming at delaying the process of chronification. ⋯ As there is still a lack of clarity and of consistency about the implementation of multimodal pain management the ad-hoc-Kommission on multimodal interdisciplinary pain management of the German Pain Society has proposed a position paper that has been worked out in a multilevel and interdisciplinary consensus process. Moreover a basic tool for documentation and quality management of pain therapy was developed by the German Pain Society (KEDOQ-Schmerz) as the data basis for nationwide, cross-sectional and independent scientific research in health services in Germany. In future KEDOQ-Schmerz will also used as a method for external quality management in chronic pain therapy in Germany.

Case Reports[Emergency medicine at the limit: shock-, analgesic therapy and airway management in difficult terrain].
Rescue operations in mountain and remote areas pose special challenges for the rescue team and often differ substantially from rescue missions in the urban environment. Given the growing sports and leisure activities in mountains, incidence of alpine emergencies is expected to rise further. The following article describes the treatment of haemorrhagic shock, analgesic therapy and airway management in mountain rescue.

Case Reports[Case Report: Zinc phosphide poisoning after ingestion of a rodentizide in suicidal intention].
Zinc phosphide normally serves as a rodenticide but is occasionally ingested for suicide, potentially causing multiorgan failure. Phosphine gas is commonly in use for fumigation of grain silos and shipping containers. We describe a suicide attempt of a 54 year old female, the clinical symptoms, the treatment, the chemical and biochemical background and we give information on the potential occurrence of zinc phosphide and phosphine gas.

Case Reports[Case report: resuscitation of a hypothermic patient - "Nothing's like it seems!"].
We report about a prolonged resuscitation of a hypothermic patient (26.2°C) in stadium HT III of the Swiss Staging System (SSS). A mechanical chest compression with the Lund University Cardiac Assist System (LUCAS) and the rewarming with a haemodialysis device were implemented. ⋯ After the defibrillation a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) was established. The patient achieved a very good cognitive-mnestic result after the resuscitation but he suffered a neurological deficit in the meaning of paraplegia.
