ReviewCoronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) and Cardiovascular Complications.
The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic. It has spread to more than 100 countries, and more than 1 million cases have been confirmed. ⋯ The basics of the virus, the clinical manifestations, and the possible mechanisms of cardiac complications in patients with COVID-19 are reviewed. Before an effective vaccine or medicine is available, supportive therapy and identifying patients who are at high risk of cardiac complications are important.

Meta AnalysisMAGGIC, STS, and EuroSCORE II Risk Score Comparison After Aortic and Mitral Valve Surgery.
To compare the Meta-Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC) risk score with the established Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and EuroSCORE II risk prediction models regarding mortality discrimination after aortic and mitral valve surgery. ⋯ The MAGGIC risk score performs similarly to STS and EuroSCORE II risk models in mortality discrimination after aortic and mitral valve surgery, albeit in a small sample size. This finding has important implications in establishing MAGGIC as a viable prognostic model in this population subset, with fewer variables and ease of use representing key advantages over STS and EuroSCORE II.

ReviewHow Would Our Own Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia Be Treated During Cardiac Surgery?
The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive review of the current state of knowledge on heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in cardiac surgery. The management of HIT patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass is complex and requires an interdisciplinary and patient-tailored approach because available evidence is limited and current anticoagulation strategies have potential risks. An index case is used to discuss both the established and new perioperative therapeutic options in HIT patients undergoing urgent cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

Ultrasound-Guided Intermediate Cervical Plexus Block for Transcarotid Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement.
To report the authors' initial experience of transcarotid transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) managed with ultrasound-guided intermediate cervical plexus block. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided intermediate cervical plexus block appeared to be an alternative anesthetic technique for carotid TAVR, providing adequate surgical conditions, continuous neurologic monitoring, and arterial pressure stability.

Survey of the Preparation of Cardiovascular Emergency Medications for Adult Cardiovascular Anesthesia.
To describe current practices and safety concerns regarding cardiac emergency medications in cardiac anesthesia. ⋯ This survey found that cardiac emergency medications commonly are prepared in the operating room. The authors identified gaps in familiarity with parenteral medications safety guidelines. Most safety concerns could be addressed with the application of current medication safety guidelines.
