Temporary Mechanical Circulatory Support in Sepsis-Associated Cardiogenic Shock With and Without Acute Myocardial Infarction.
To describe the current use and outcomes of temporary mechanical circulatory support (MCS) in patients with sepsis-associated cardiogenic shocks with and without acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in the United States. ⋯ Although temporary MCS is deemed to be a feasible option in sepsis-associated cardiogenic shock, the selection of the right patients whose shock is driven mainly by cardiogenic shock rather than septic shock, as represented by low cardiac output and high systemic vascular resistance, plays a critical role in the feasibility of this approach in the absence of clinical trials.

Observational StudyTricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (TAPSE) for the Assessment of Right Ventricular Function in Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery: Modified Two-dimensional and M-mode TAPSE by Transesophageal Echocardiography Compared to M-mode TAPSE by Transthoracic Echocardiography.
To compare transesophageal echocardiography-guided 2-dimensional and M-mode tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) to transthoracic echocardiography (TTE)-guided M-mode TAPSE in terms of accuracy, interobserver, and intra-observer variability. ⋯ Modified ME TAPSE is a reliable and reproducible measure of RV function before pericardiotomy in both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. Right ventricular FAC values reflected the RV systolic function better than TAPSE after pericardiotomy. Deep transgastric TAPSE is reliable and reproducible but is less accurate than Mod-ME TAPSE.

PERSUADE Survey-PERioperative AnestheSia and Intensive Care Management of Left VentricUlar Assist DevicE Implantation in Europe and the United States.
To comprehensively assess relevant institutional variations in anesthesia and intensive care management during left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. ⋯ Although the perioperative practice of care for patients undergoing LVAD implantation differs in several aspects between Europe and the US, there were no perceived differences in early postoperative complications.
