The adaptation of the educational programmes of European faculties of medicine to the European Higher Education Area guidelines has focused curricula design on competence acquisition. Competencies are defined as the achievements of a predetermined level of efficacy in real-world scenarios. Our objective was to assess whether performance on a common competence evaluation test, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), resulted in different scores for second-year students after a practical medical training course took place in a primary health centre (PHC) or in a hospital. ⋯ Second-year medical students acquired similar competency levels in the two analysed training scenarios. The two areas both serve their teaching purpose.

[Suitability of strontium ranelate in a health care management area after drug surveillance alerts].
To analyse the impact of a strategy on the suitability of strontium ranelate, and its level of acceptance, after issuing recommendations based on drug surveillance alerts issued by the Spanish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency. ⋯ The number of patients prescribed strontium ranelate has decreased considerably. The interventions directed at reviewing the suitability of this treatment, based on the drug surveillance alerts, have been effective.

[Evaluation of referral process of the hypertensive patient in Spain: DERIVA study].
An adequate communication between levels of medical attention is the key point for optimal treatment and outcomes of the hypertensive population. ⋯ A quarter of the hypertensive population is unnecessary derived to Secondary Care and 30% of the appropriately derived was late. We should improve the interrelation of attention in the hypertension and cardiovascular area between the both attention levels.
