To evaluate results of the Papanicolaou cervical cytology test performed between 1986 and 1995. ⋯ There were few cases of cervical cancer detected with the methods followed at our centre. The effectiveness of the intervention should be improved by selective screening based on risk scales, setting up computerised systems of identification and the extension of the interval between smears to 5 years.

To identify diabetics not dependent on insulin (DNDI) who are carriers of clinical proteinuria and microalbuminuria susceptible to captopril treatment and to evaluate the evolution of the urinary excretion of albumin (UEA) rate after three years of follow-up. ⋯ Captopril treatment reduced levels of UEA in DNDI who had high UEA. Significantly, evolution to clinical proteinuria of patients with persistent microalbuminuria was avoided.

To find the social and economic characteristics, and to identify the problems and health needs, of chronic patients confined to the home (CPHs). ⋯ We found some CPHs suffering pluripathology and receiving multiple medication, most of these were elderly, women, with a low social and economic level and little social support. A programme of care of chronic patients confined to the home needs to be set up, based on nursing care and enabling the quality of life and satisfaction of these patients to be improved.
