Masked hypertension and submaximal exercise blood pressure among adolescents from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC).
Masked hypertension is associated with increased cardiovascular risk but is undetectable by clinic blood pressure (BP). Elevated systolic BP responses to submaximal exercise reveal the presence of masked hypertension in adults, but it is unknown whether this is the case during adolescence. We aimed to determine if exercise BP was raised in adolescents with masked hypertension, and its association with cardiovascular risk markers. ⋯ Submaximal exercise systolic BP is associated with masked hypertension and adverse cardiovascular structure in adolescents. Exercise BP may be useful in addition to clinic BP for screening of high BP and cardiovascular risk in adolescents.

Risk factors of stress fractures due to the female athlete triad: Differences in teens and twenties.
The female athlete triad (Triad), defined by the American College of Sports Medicine as low energy availability (LEA) with or without disordered eating, menstrual dysfunction, and low bone mineral density (BMD), is associated with stress fractures and athletes aged 16-17 years are most susceptible. ⋯ To prevent stress fractures in female athletes with the Triad, age of athletes should be taken into consideration.

Pyruvate and lactate as local prognostic biomarkers of patient outcome after achilles tendon rupture.
Acute Achilles tendon rupture (ATR) is a frequently disabling injury, which exhibits unclear variability in long-term functional and patient-reported outcomes. Biomarkers from early healing, which have been shown to be prognostic of long-term outcome would facilitate the development of improved treatment methods. ⋯ This study established that the metabolite pyruvate is a good potential biomarker, prognostic of patient outcome at the one-year follow-up after ATR surgery. These novel findings suggest that local biomarkers could be developed at an early-stage screen for new ATR treatments.

Randomized Controlled TrialHigh volume injection with and without corticosteroid in chronic midportion achilles tendinopathy.
High volume injection (HVI) shows promising results in the treatment of chronic midportion Achilles tendinopathy (AT). HVI consists of a large volume of saline with a small amount of corticosteroid and local anesthetic. ⋯ High volume injection with or without corticosteroid in combination with eccentric training seems effective in AT. HVI with corticosteroid showed a better short-term improvement than HVI without corticosteroid indicating a short-term effect of corticosteroid in HVI treatment of AT.

Low energy availability, menstrual dysfunction, and impaired bone health: A survey of elite para athletes.
The Female Athlete Triad (Triad) is a syndrome describing three interrelated conditions: low energy availability (LEA), menstrual dysfunction, and low bone mineral density (BMD). Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) expands the Triad to include multiple physiologic consequences of LEA in both sexes. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of factors associated with the Triad/RED-S in an elite para athlete population. ⋯ Factors associated with the Triad/RED-S are present in an elite para athlete population, regardless of sex or sport type. Awareness of the Triad/RED-S in para athletes is low. The consequences of LEA in para athlete populations are poorly understood. However, the high prevalence of factors observed suggests value in advancing screening tools and education efforts to optimize health in this population.
