Multicenter StudyAneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage in a Mexican multicenter registry of cerebrovascular disease: the RENAMEVASC study.
Information on risk factors and outcome of persons with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in Mexico is unknown. We sought to describe the clinical characteristics, risk factors, and outcome at discharge of Mexican patients with aneurysmal SAH. ⋯ Hypertension is the main risk factor for aneurysmal SAH in hospitalized patients from Mexico. The female:male ratio is 2:1. A relatively low in-hospital mortality and a high frequency of invasive interventions are observed. However, a high proportion of patients are discharged with important neurologic impairment.

Review Case ReportsA case of unilateral thalamic hemorrhagic infarction as a result of the vein of Galen and straight sinus thrombosis.
Straight sinus vein thrombosis represents 15% of all diagnosed sinus vein thrombosis. Thrombotic occlusion of the deep cerebral venous system, the straight sinus, and the vein of Galen causes centrally located and usually bilateral thalamic infarcts. ⋯ The clinical and radiologic findings can be nonspecific and diagnostically challenging. We report a patient with this unusual condition and review the available literature.

Multicenter StudyA risk score to predict intracranial hemorrhage after recombinant tissue plasminogen activator for acute ischemic stroke.
Ability to predict risk of postthrombolysis intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is currently limited. ⋯ A simple risk score may be useful for predicting postthrombolysis ICH.

Predictors of clinical outcome and mortality in vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia diagnosed by magnetic resonance angiography.
Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is a poorly understood vasculopathy. VBD may be associated with an increased likelihood of stroke and all-cause mortality. The purpose of this study was to establish predictors for clinical outcome in VBD, and better guide therapeutic medical and surgical interventions. ⋯ In patients with VBD, BA involvement increases the risk of neurologic morbidity, whereas mortality seems more predicted by classic vascular risk factors than VBD features. This study may aid in predicting annual risk of stroke recurrence or death in VBD.

Comparative StudyStroke in the young: access to care and outcome; a Western versus eastern European perspective.
To develop effective strategies to address the needs of young patients with stroke, it is important to recognize what components of stroke care they receive. The aims of this study were to describe the provision of stroke care and the factors associated with 3-month mortality and disability (Barthel Index 0-14) in patients younger than 55 years across Western and Eastern Europe. ⋯ Young patients with stroke in Western Europe are more likely to gain access to a number of components of stroke care compared with those in Eastern Europe. The future challenge is to ensure that recommendations are adopted to ensure all young patients receive evidence-based stroke care across Europe.
