Case ReportsReport of Dramatic Improvement after a Lumboperitoneal Shunt Procedure in a Case of Anticoagulation Therapy-Resistant Cerebral Venous Thrombosis.
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), which typically progresses from either acute or subacute onset, presents with symptoms related to intracranial hypertension (e.g., headache and papilledema) and brain parenchymal lesions (e.g., aphasia and hemiplegia). Anticoagulation therapy is generally accepted as a treatment for CVT and often leads to good clinical outcomes. However, we experienced a case of CVT with an uncommon clinical course. ⋯ Another mechanism is impaired CSF absorption in the thrombosed sinuses, resulting in intracranial hypertension. We speculated that the latter mechanism strongly influenced our case, thus explaining the uncommon clinical course and effectiveness of the LP shunt procedure. Although LP shunting is not a common treatment for CVT, this case report could indicate the usefulness of this procedure for CVT with chronic progression and resistance to anticoagulation therapy.

Comparative Study Observational StudyNeutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and 30-Day Mortality in Patients with Acute Intracerebral Hemorrhage.
Although a highly significant association has been described between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and mortality in patients with various types of stroke, the association between NLR and mortality in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) patients remains unclear. ⋯ Higher NLR exhibited an increased mortality in ICH patients. NLR could be used to predict 30-day outcome in ICH patients.

Nutritional Improvement and Energy Intake Are Associated with Functional Recovery in Patients after Cerebrovascular Disorders.
Malnutrition affects the activities of daily living (ADLs) in convalescent patients with cerebrovascular disorders. We investigated the relationship between nutritional improvement, energy intake at admission, and recovery of ADLs. ⋯ This study suggested that nutritional improvement and energy intake at admission are associated with recovery of ADL after cerebrovascular disorders.

Outcomes after Stroke in Patients with Previous Pressure Ulcer: A Nationwide Matched Retrospective Cohort Study.
Factors associated with poststroke adverse events were not completely understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether stroke patients with previous pressure ulcers had more adverse events after stroke. ⋯ This study showed increased poststroke complications and mortality in patients with previous pressure ulcer, which suggests the urgent need for monitoring stroke patients for pressure ulcer history.

Case ReportsEpileptic Ictal Hyperperfusion on Arterial Spin Labeling Perfusion and Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Images in Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome.
The hemodynamic state of the posterior dominant vasogenic edema in posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is controversial. The aim of this retrospective study was to examine the contribution of epileptic ictal hyperperfusion in patients with PRES using combined magnetic resonance perfusion imaging with arterial spin labeling (ASL) and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ Combined use of DWI and ASL can provide information on hemodynamic state associated with epileptic ictal hyperperfusion in the various phases of PRES.
