Pterostilbene Reduces Acetaminophen-Induced Liver Injury by Activating the Nrf2 Antioxidative Defense System via the AMPK/Akt/GSK3β Pathway.
Pterostilbene (Pts), a natural dimethylated analog of resveratrol from blueberries, exerts antioxidative and anti-apoptotic effects in various diseases. This study aims to investigate the protective effects and mechanism of Pts against acetaminophen (APAP)-induced hepatotoxicity in vivo. ⋯ Our data suggest that Pts protects against APAP-induced toxicity by activating Nrf2 via the AMPK/Akt/GSK3β pathway.

SphK1/S1P Mediates PDGF-Induced Pulmonary Arterial Smooth Muscle Cell Proliferation via miR-21/BMPRII/Id1 Signaling Pathway.
The underlying molecular mechanisms involved in sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1)/sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) mediation of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-induced pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell (PASMC) proliferation are still unclear, and the present study aims to address this issue. ⋯ Our study indicates that SphK1/S1P pathway plays an important role in PDGF-induced PASMC proliferation via miR-21/BMPRII/Id1 axis and targeting against SphK1/S1P axis might be a novel strategy in the prevention and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

MiR-592 Promotes Gastric Cancer Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion Through the PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK Signaling Pathways by Targeting Spry2.
Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most prevalent digestive malignancies. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in multiple cellular processes, including oncogenesis, and miR-592 itself participates in many malignancies; however, its role in GC remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the expression and molecular mechanisms of miR-592 in GC. ⋯ Overexpression of miR-592 promotes GC proliferation, migration, and invasion and induces the EMT via the PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK signaling pathways by inhibiting Spry2, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for GC.

Long Non-Coding RNA SH3PXD2A-AS1 Promotes Cell Progression Partly Through Epigenetic Silencing P57 and KLF2 in Colorectal Cancer.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed malignancies worldwide. Current evidence has revealed the key roles of long non-coding RNAs (IncRNAs) in multiple cancers, including CRC. In this study we identified the lncRNA SH3PXD2A-AS1 as a novel molecule associated with CRC progression by analyzing the publicly available data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets. ⋯ Our research presents the first evidence that SH3PXD2A-AS1 acts as an oncogene in CRC, and may be a promising diagnostic or therapeutic target in patients with CRC.

lncRNA TUG1-Mediated Mir-142-3p Downregulation Contributes to Metastasis and the Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition of Hepatocellular Carcinoma by Targeting ZEB1.
MicroRNA-142-3p (miR-142-3p) is dysregulated in many malignancies and may function as a tumor suppressor or oncogene in tumorigenesis and tumor development. However, few studies have investigated the clinical significance and biological function of miR-142-3p in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ The results of this study suggest that the TUG1/miR-142-3p/ ZEB1 axis contributes to the formation of malignant behaviors in HCC.
