Erythropoietin-Derived Peptide Protects Against Acute Lung Injury After Rat Traumatic Brain Injury.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be complicated by TBI-triggered acute lung injury (ALI), in which inflammation plays a central role. It has been reported that an Erythropoietin-derived peptide (pHBSP) was able to ameliorate TBI; however, its function in TBI-caused ALI has not been reported yet. ⋯ We identified the protective role that pHBSP played in TBI-caused ALI, suggesting that pHBSP is a potent candidate for systemic therapy in TBI patients.

The Protective Effect of Cordycepin On Alcohol-Induced Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head.
Alcohol abuse is known to be a leading risk factor for atraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), in which the suppression of osteogenesis plays a critical role. Cordycepin benefits bone metabolism; however, there has been no study to determine its effect on osteonecrosis. ⋯ Cordycepin treatment to enhance osteogenesis may be considered a potential therapeutic approach to prevent the development of alcohol-induced ONFH.

MicroRNA-29b Inhibits Angiogenesis by Targeting VEGFA through the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathways in Endometrial Carcinoma.
The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of microRNA-29b (miR-29b) regulating MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways on angiogenesis in endometrial carcinoma (EC) by targeting VEGFA. ⋯ Our results indicate that miR-29b negatively modulates the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways to inhibit angiogenesis in EC by targeting VEGFA.

Apoptosis of THP-1 Macrophages Induced by Pseudohypericin-Mediated Sonodynamic Therapy Through the Mitochondria-Caspase Pathway.
Pseudohypericin (P-HY) and its congener hypericin are the major hydroxylated phenanthroperylenediones present in Hypericum species. Our previous study indicated that hypericin was able to function as a sonosensitizer. The potential use of P-HY as a sonosensitizer for sonodynamic therapy (SDT) requires further exploration. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of P-HY-SDT on THP-1 macrophages. ⋯ P-HY-SDT induced THP-1 macrophage apoptosis through the mitochondria-caspase pathway via ROS generation, the translocation of BAX and the release of Cytochrome C to regulate the mPTP opening.

Review Meta AnalysisClinical Therapeutic Effects of Aspirin in Combination with Fufang Danshen Diwan, a Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula, on Coronary Heart Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Coronary heart disease is characterized by vascular stenosis or occlusion resulting in myocardial ischemia, hypoxia and necrosis. In China, the combination of aspirin and Fufang Danshen Diwan (FDD), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, has been suggested in the treatment of coronary heart disease. There have been several studies comparing the effectiveness of aspirin alone and in combination with FDD to treat coronary artery disease; however, it remains unclear whether combined aspirin therapy is superior. This study was thus designed to clarify this issue through a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ The present meta-analysis demonstrated that aspirin in combination with FDD was more effective than aspirin alone for treating coronary heart disease. More full-scale randomized clinical trials with reliable designs are recommended to further evaluate the clinical benefits and long-term effectiveness of FDD for the treatment of coronary heart disease.
