We investigated the relationship between white-matter alteration and cognitive status in Parkinson's disease (PD) with and without dementia by using diffusion tensor imaging. ⋯ • Dementia is a common and important non-motor sign of Parkinson's disease (PD). • The neuropathological basis of dementia in PD is not clear. • DTI shows abnormalities in the prefrontal white matter in PD with dementia. • Prefrontal white matter alteration may be useful biomarker of dementia in PD.

To prospectively estimate the additional diagnostic value of ultrasound (US) re-evaluation for patients with equivocal computed tomography (CT) findings of acute appendicitis. ⋯ • Misdiagnosis of appendicitis still occurs, especially in patients with equivocal radiological findings. • The sensitivity and specificity of CT followed by US exceeded those of CT alone. • After US re-evaluation, the negative appendectomy rate decreased from 3.4 to 2.3 %. • US re-evaluation in equivocal cases helps diagnostic confidence and further management.

To develop and assess a combined reading for contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance (CE-MRI) and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) adapted to the BI-RADS for multiparametric MRI of the breast at 3 T. ⋯ Multiparametric 3-T MRI of the breast using a BI-RADS-adapted reading is fast, simple to use and significantly improves the diagnostic accuracy of breast MRI. KEYPOINTS : • Multiparametric breast 3-T MRI with BI-RADS-adapted reading improves diagnostic accuracy. • BI-RADS-adapted reading of CE-MRI and DWI is based on established reporting guidelines. • BI-RADS-adapted reading is fast and easy to use in routine clinical practice. • BI-RADS-adapted reading is robust to intra- and inter-reader variability.

To evaluate the quality of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) images obtained with a three-dimensional navigator-gated (NG) technique and compare findings with conventional respiratory-triggered (RT) images in pre-laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients. ⋯ • Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) provides important cystic duct information before laparoscopic cholecystectomy. • Navigator-gated (NG) MRCP images were better than conventional respiratory-triggered (RT) MRCP. • The signal-to-noise ratio was significantly higher for NG-MRCP than for conventional RT-MRCP. • Balanced turbo-field-echo NG-MRCP is useful for evaluating the gallbladder and cystic duct.

To evaluate the association between dynamic progressive enhancing foci ("dynamic spot sign") in acute haematoma on CT perfusion source images (CTP-SI) and haematoma expansion. ⋯ • It is important to identify potential progression of spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage. • Dynamic enhancement within CT perfusion source images is associated with haemorrhage expansion. • The CTP dynamic spot sign may be present throughout arterial to venous phase imaging. • The CTP dynamic spot sign carries a higher predive value for haematoma expansion than CTA.
