To test whether parameters derived from intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) can be used to distinguish lung cancer from obstructive pulmonary consolidation by comparing them with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI)-derived parameters and to evaluate the correlation between these quantitative parameters. ⋯ • Lung cancer and consolidation differentiation is essential for treatment decision-making. • Perfusion and diffusion characteristics of lesions could help differential diagnosis. • IVIM can separate reflection of tissue diffusivity and microcapillary perfusion. • The relationship between perfusion quantified by IVIM and DCE-MRI is controversial.

Our primary objective was to evaluate diagnostic performance of gadofosveset T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (T1W MRI) for discriminating between ypT0-2 and ypT3-4 tumours after chemoradiation therapy (CRT) for rectal cancer compared with T2W MRI for a general and expert reader. Second objectives included assessing the value of multiplanar reformatting (MPR) and interobserver agreement. ⋯ • ycT restaging with MRI in rectal cancer is challenging. • Gadofosveset-enhanced T1W MRI has shown promise for nodal restaging. • Gadofosveset-enhanced T1W MRI did not significantly increase diagnostic performance for assessing ypT0-2-tumours. • Addition of the gadofosveset sequence to T2W MRI slightly increased sensitivity for the general reader. • MPR did not improve diagnostic performance of ycT staging.

Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can potentially meet the pressing need for objective, sensitive, reproducible outcome measures in neuromuscular disease trials. We tested, in healthy volunteers, the consistency, reliability and sensitivity to normal inter-subject variation of MRI methods targeted to lower limb muscle pathology to inform the design of practical but comprehensive MRI outcome measure protocols for use in imminent patient studies. ⋯ • Quantitative lower limb muscle MRI provides potential outcome measures in neuromuscular diseases • Bilateral thigh/calf coverage using sequences sensitive to acute and chronic pathology • Measurements have excellent scan-rescan and interobserver reliability • Measurements show small but significant inter-subject age and weight dependency • Readily implementable sequences suitable for further assessment in patient studies.

To investigate the changes of respiratory function in patients affected by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with single dorsal osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) treated with vertebroplasty (VTP). ⋯ • Osteoporosis is a major comorbidity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. • Pain due to osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures worsens respiratory failure in COPD. • Vertebroplasty improves ventilatory impairment in COPD patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.

Cardiac valve calcifications on low-dose unenhanced ungated chest computed tomography: inter-observer and inter-examination reliability, agreement and variability.
To determine inter-observer and inter-examination variability for aortic valve calcification (AVC) and mitral valve and annulus calcification (MC) in low-dose unenhanced ungated lung cancer screening chest computed tomography (CT). ⋯ • Low-dose unenhanced ungated chest computed tomography can detect cardiac valve calcifications. • However, calcified cardiac valves are not reported by most radiologists. • Inter-observer and inter-examination variability of aortic valve calcifications is sufficient for longitudinal studies. • Volumetric measurement variability of mitral valve and annulus calcifications is substantial.
