Multicenter Study Comparative StudyCongenital heart defects in La Réunion Island: a 6-year survey within a EUROCAT-affiliated congenital anomalies registry.
This study compares the prevalence and perinatal mortality of congenital heart defects on La Réunion with European (EUROCAT) standards. ⋯ In La Réunion, the total prevalence of congenital heart defects is far inferior to that found in Europe. The difference can be attributable to lower prevalences of mild congenital heart defects.

Case ReportsTransaortic Fallot repair in a grown-up patient: advantages in a situs inversus setting.
We present the case studies of two adult patients with tetralogy of Fallot who were scheduled for surgery. After addressing the right ventricular outflow tract obstruction, the aorta was opened and the ventricular septal defect was approached in a straightforward manner as it was located just under the overriding aortic valve. ⋯ In this setting, the aortic approach simplified the repair expeditiously. After 2 years, both patients are in New York Heart Association class I, with no residual ventricular septal defect, no aortic regurgitation, and complete relief of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction.

Simulation of Eisenmenger syndrome with ventricular septal defect using equivalent electronic system.
In this study, we aim to investigate the simulation of the cardiovascular system using an electronic circuit model under normal and pathological conditions, especially the Eisenmenger syndrome. ⋯ Our model is effective and available for simulating normal cardiac conditions and cardiovascular diseases, especially the Eisenmenger syndrome.

Is myocardial performance index useful in differential diagnosis of moderate and severe hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy? A serial Doppler echocardiographic evaluation.
The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of myocardial performance index as an additive criterion to Sarnat criteria in differential diagnosis of newborn babies with moderate and severe hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy. ⋯ Myocardial performance indexes for the left and right ventricles were significantly higher in both severe and moderate hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy groups than in the control group during the first analysis, and myocardial performance index greater than or equal to 0.5 can be used in order to distinguish moderate and severe hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy babies according to Sarnat grades as a discriminative additive criterion.
