Association between preoperative respiratory support and outcomes in paediatric cardiac surgery.
Preoperative mechanical ventilation is associated with morbidity and mortality following CHD surgery, but prior studies lack a comprehensive analysis of how preoperative respiratory support mode and timing affects outcomes. ⋯ Preoperative respiratory support is associated with prolonged length of stay and mortality following CHD surgery. Knowing how preoperative respiratory support affects outcomes may help guide surgical timing, inform prognostic conversations, and improve risk stratification models.

Review Case ReportsArterial switch procedure and hybrid muscular ventricular septal defect closure in a patient with d-transposition of the great arteries and multiple ventricular septal defects: a case report and literature review.
Hybrid cardiac surgery involves simultaneous catheter based and surgical treatment of heart diseases. We report a complete repair of dextro-transposition of the great arteries and perimembranous and muscular ventricular septal defects in a 5-month-old girl. This included an arterial switch operation followed by an off-bypass, echocardiographically guided per-ventricular muscular ventricular septal defect closure.

Multicenter StudyFactors affecting the outcome of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation following paediatric cardiac surgery.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation has been widely used after paediatric cardiac surgery due to increasing complex surgical repairs in neonates and infants having complex CHDs. ⋯ Survival to hospital discharge in patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support after paediatric cardiac surgery was better in those who underwent biventricular repair than in those who had univentricular palliation. Capillary leak on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation could be a risk of mortality in patients after paediatric cardiac surgery.

Can we predict potentially dangerous coronary patterns in patients with transposition of the great arteries after an arterial switch operation?
Coronary artery complications are the main reason for early mortality after an arterial switch operation. Late complications are relatively rare, and there is no consensus regarding the need or indications for routine follow-up coronary artery evaluations or the best first-line assessment modality. The aim of this study was to present the long-term post-operative frequency of coronary abnormalities in asymptomatic patients with transposition of the great arteries discovered by coronary CT angiography and potential "red flags" revealed by other examinations. ⋯ Complex coronary configurations with potentially dangerous coronary features are common in patients with transposition after an arterial switch operation. Such high-risk patients cannot be identified indirectly, and coronary CT angiography provides accurate information that is useful for post-operative management.

Early identification of impending cardiac arrest in neonates and infants in the cardiovascular ICU: a statistical modelling approach using physiologic monitoring data.
To develop a physiological data-driven model for early identification of impending cardiac arrest in neonates and infants with cardiac disease hospitalised in the cardiovascular ICU. ⋯ Our findings demonstrate that a predictive model using physiologic monitoring data in neonates and infants with cardiac disease hospitalised in the paediatric cardiovascular ICU can identify impending cardiac arrest on average 17 hours prior to arrest.
