Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyRationale and design of the Fractional Flow Reserve versus Angiography for Multivessel Evaluation (FAME) 3 Trial: a comparison of fractional flow reserve-guided percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass graft surgery in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease.
Guidelines recommend coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery over percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for the treatment of 3-vessel coronary artery disease (3-VD). The inferior results of PCI demonstrated by previous large randomized trials comparing PCI and CABG might be explained by the use of suboptimal stent technology and by the lack of fractional flow reserve (FFR) guidance of PCI.
