Bedaquiline was recommended by the World Health Organization as the preferred option in treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) with long regimens. However, no recommendation was given for the short MDR-TB regimen. Data from our small cohort of patients who switched from injectable drug to bedaquiline suggest that a bedaquiline-based short regimen is effective and safe.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Dolutegravir Monotherapy Versus Dolutegravir/Abacavir/Lamivudine for Virologically Suppressed People Living With Chronic Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection: The Randomized Noninferiority MONotherapy of TiviCAY Trial.
We investigated whether dolutegravir (DTG) monotherapy could be used to maintain virological suppression in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) on a successful dolutegravir-based triple therapy. ⋯ NCT02596334 and EudraCT 2015-002853-36.

The HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) Study 073 (HPTN 073) assessed the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for black men who have sex with men (BMSM). The purpose of this analysis was to characterize the relationship between PrEP uptake and use and incident sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among participants enrolled in HPTN 073. ⋯ NCT01808352.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Controlled Human Malaria Infection of Healthy Adults With Lifelong Malaria Exposure to Assess Safety, Immunogenicity, and Efficacy of the Asexual Blood Stage Malaria Vaccine Candidate GMZ2.
GMZ2 is a recombinant malaria vaccine inducing immune responses against Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) merozoite surface protein-3 and glutamate-rich protein. We used standardized controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) to assess the efficacy of this asexual blood-stage vaccine. ⋯ Pan-African Clinical Trials: PACTR201503001038304.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) helps protect healthcare workers (HCWs) from pathogens and prevents cross-contamination. PPE effectiveness is often undermined by inappropriate doffing methods. Our knowledge of how HCWs approach doffing PPE in practice is limited. In this qualitative study, we examine HCWs' perspectives about doffing PPE. ⋯ Efforts to improve HCWs' doffing performance need to address HCWs' preferences for both safety and expediency when using PPE, which has implications for PPE design, training approaches, and hospital policies and procedures.
