Tunneled internal jugular hemodialysis catheters: impact of laterality and tip position on catheter dysfunction and infection rates.
To determine rates of dysfunction and infection for tunneled internal jugular vein hemodialysis catheters based on laterality of insertion and catheter tip position. ⋯ When inserted from the left internal jugular vein, catheter tip position demonstrated a significant impact on catheter-related dysfunction and infection; this relationship was not demonstrated for right-sided catheters.

Clinical TrialApparent diffusion coefficient of uterine leiomyoma as a predictor of the potential response to uterine artery embolization.
To determine the utility of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of uterine leiomyoma for prediction of the potential response to uterine artery embolization (UAE). ⋯ ADC of uterine leiomyomas was significantly related to the volume reduction after UAE. ADC may be useful in predicting the potential response to UAE. A high ADC of the uterine leiomyoma may be associated with a greater volume reduction after UAE.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyClinical evaluation of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with 2-day-soluble gelatin sponge particles for hepatocellular carcinoma-comparison with insoluble gelatin sponge particles.
To compare therapeutic effect, adverse events, and embolized hepatic artery impairment in transcatheter arterial chemoembolization between Lipiodol plus insoluble gelatin sponge particles (Gelpart) and Lipiodol plus 2-day-soluble gelatin sponge particles (2DS-GSPs). ⋯ Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with 2DS-GSPs resulted in the same therapeutic and adverse effects as chemoembolization with Gelpart while causing significantly less hepatic artery impairment.

To investigate the safety and efficacy of the self-expanding Solitaire stent used during intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for intracranial arterial occlusion (IAO) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). ⋯ Combined revascularization with the Solitaire stent during IVT appears to be safe and effective in the treatment of acute IAO.

Comparative StudyAre cuffed peripherally inserted central catheters superior to uncuffed peripherally inserted central catheters? A retrospective review in a tertiary pediatric center.
To assess the use of cuffed peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) compared with uncuffed PICCs in children with respect to their ability to provide access until the end of therapy. ⋯ In this pediatric population, cuffed PICCs were more likely to provide access until the end of therapy. Cuffed PICCs were associated with lower rates of catheter infection, malposition, and thrombosis than uncuffed PICCs.
