[Clinical trials with minors in Germany--effects of the 12th amendment to the German Drug Code on the numbers of applications to Institutional Review Boards (IRB)].
The availability of licensed medication for children and adolescents depends on the frequency of clinical trials within this age group. In Germany legislation the framework for clinical trials was changed essentially in 2004 by the 12th amendment on the German Drug Code (AMG). This paper studies the changes in applications to the IRBs for clinical trials in adults and minors before and after implementation of the 12th amendment. ⋯ The 12th amendment to the German Drug Code had only slight effects on the number of clinical trials in general and especially on the number of clinical trials with minors. Overall, clinical trial with minors make only a small proportion of all applications for clinical trials to the IRB in Germany. The EU regulation on medical products for children may cause an increasing number of clinical trials with minors in the future.

[Statutory ambulatory medical care through the eyes of the health insurance beneficiaries--methods and results of the 2006 NASHIP Health Insurance Beneficiary survey: care utilisation, primary care, and emergency medical services].
The aim of this study was to obtain valid information on the delivery of ambulatory medical care from the point of view of the health insurance beneficiaries. The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (NASHIP) conducted in 2006 for the first time a nationally representative telephone survey. The survey set out to gather information on health care utilisation, patients' experiences and satisfaction with care delivery, and to provide an indication for the further development of the services offered. ⋯ The NASHIP health insurance beneficiary survey reflects a broadening patient and service orientation and provides valid information on ambulatory medical care through the eyes of the insurance beneficiaries. The survey depicts high overall satisfaction with primary care, a high degree of trust in the doctor's medical competence, and easily accessible services. Patient evaluations of outpatient emergency medical care are mainly positive, but still show room for improvement.

Clinical Trial[Patient education in pulmonary rehabilitation: results of an implementation study].
Patient education is considered to be a major feature of medical rehabilitation in chronic disorders. While the substantial advances in the proposition of patient education programmes in in-patient health-care remain unquestioned, there are some deficits in actually performing such programmes in clinical practice. Only few clinics adhere to the protocol and recommendations for patient education. ⋯ There was a high level of acceptance among all staff members and patients. The entire programme causes costs of 97 euro per patient. The costs at the beginning of the implementation were higher than those for the routine use.

[School-based smoking prevention by enhancement of life competence--an empirical evaluation].
An intervention for the prevention of smoking in fifth grades of basic secondary schools is to be evaluated. ⋯ The intervention had no general effect for all pupils. However, it did have a positive effect specifically for pupils with a smoking father. The whole intervention does not seem to be cost-effective. Specific interventions with a focus on endangered groups could be more cost-effective.
