Meta AnalysisEfficacy and safety of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors in type 2 diabetes: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials for 1 to 2years.
To evaluate the mid long-term efficacy and safety of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). ⋯ SGLT2 inhibitors have favorable effects on combating hyperglycemia for mid long-term; likewise, they have additional benefits beyond glycemic control such as reducing body weight and lowering blood pressure.

Comparative StudyValidation of the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) questionnaire and its correlation with visual analog pain scales in Greek population.
One of the diagnostic tools of neuropathetic pain (NP) relies on screening questionnaires including the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) questionnaire. ⋯ The LANSS score is a reliable and valuable instrument to assess neuropathic pain in diabetic patients and to differentiate it from nociceptive pain in Greek population. In diabetic patients LANSS score is associated with impact on daily activities and potentially with quality of life.

ReviewThe relationship between carbohydrate and the mealtime insulin dose in type 1 diabetes.
A primary focus of the nutritional management of type 1 diabetes has been on matching prandial insulin therapy with carbohydrate amount consumed. Different methods exist to quantify carbohydrate including counting in one gram increments, 10g portions or 15g exchanges. Clinicians have assumed that counting in one gram increments is necessary to precisely dose insulin and optimize postprandial control. ⋯ Furthermore, limitations exist in the accuracy of the nutrition information panel on a food label. This article reviews the relationship between carbohydrate quantity and insulin dose, highlighting limitations in the evidence for a linear association. These insights have significant implications for patient education and mealtime insulin dose calculations.

Observational StudyPrevalence, risk factors and sequelae of Staphylococcus aureus carriage in diabetes: the Fremantle Diabetes Study Phase II.
To determine the prevalence and associates of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) carriage in community-based diabetes, and their relationship to hospitalization with S. aureus infection. ⋯ S. aureus and MRSA carriage in our patients was consistent with previous general population studies. There were no diabetes-specific risk factors. Persistent colonization may underlie the increased risk of hospitalization with S. aureus.
