Comparative StudyImplications of revision total elbow arthroplasty on blood transfusion.
We hypothesize that there is a greater rate of blood transfusions following revision total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) as compared with primary TEA, with lower preoperative hemoglobins and longer operative times being significant risk factors. ⋯ The need for blood transfusion after revision elbow arthroplasty is statistically greater than that after primary procedures. Furthermore, revision surgery, increased operative and anesthesia times, lower preoperative hemoglobin level, and decreased body mass index increase the risk of requiring a transfusion. Patients undergoing revision surgeries with preoperative hemoglobin levels of less than 10 g/dL are especially at risk of transfusion, and the proper precautions should be enacted during the perioperative period.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyNonoperative management of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder: oral cortisone application versus intra-articular cortisone injections.
Oral and intra-articular injections of cortisone will lead to significant improvement and comparable results in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder. ⋯ The use of cortisone in the treatment of idiopathic shoulder adhesive capsulitis leads to fast pain relief and improves range of motion. Intra-articular injections of glucocorticoids showed superior results in objective shoulder scores, range of motion, and patient satisfaction compared with a short course of oral corticosteroids.

Treatment of proximal humeral fracture with a proximal humeral nail.
Various treatment options are available for displaced proximal humeral fractures. This study monitored a series of patients treated with a locking proximal humeral nail (PHN). ⋯ Closed reduction and internal fixation with a PHN can be an effective method for the treatment of 2-part surgical neck fractures.

Comparative StudyAlternative humeral tubercle fixation in shoulder hemiarthroplasty for fractures of the proximal humerus.
We hypothesize that the sling technique provides better long term tuberosity fixation in hemiarthroplasty for severe fractures of the proximal humerus. ⋯ The sling technique for tuberosity fixation seems to provide solid fixation. In this study, anatomic HTD fixation was associated with significantly better functional outcome, patient satisfaction, and pain scores.
