Evaluation of the aepEX™ monitor of hypnotic depth in pediatric patients receiving propofol-remifentanil anesthesia.
The aepEX Plus monitor (aepEX) utilizes a mid-latency auditory evoked potential-derived index of depth of hypnosis (DoH). ⋯ The aepEX performs comparable to the BIS in differentiating between consciousness and unconsciousness, while performing inferior to the BIS in terms of distinguishing different levels of sedation and does not correlate well with the C(p) in children receiving propofol-remifentanil anesthesia.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA randomized controlled comparison of the Bonfils fiberscope and the GlideScope Cobalt AVL video laryngoscope for visualization of the larynx and intubation of the trachea in infants and small children with normal airways.
The Bonfils fiberscope (BF) used without the assistance of a laryngoscope failed to improve the view of direct laryngoscopy in children with normal airways. We hypothesized that if BF is supported by a laryngoscope--as recommended by its inventor--it can provide comparably good visualization of the glottis as the GlideScope(®) Cobalt AVL video laryngoscope (GS). ⋯ The Bonfils fiberscope significantly improved the view on the larynx compared with direct laryngoscopy and the GlideScope and enables shorter intubation time than with the GlideScope.

Case ReportsContinuous postoperative analgesia via quadratus lumborum block - an alternative to transversus abdominis plane block.
Different transversus abdominis plane blocks techniques cause variations in postoperative analgesia characteristics. We report the use of unilateral quadratus lumborum catheter for analgesia following colostomy closure. ⋯ No complications were reported in this pediatric patient. More studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of this regional anesthesia technique.
