Case ReportsNeedle decompression of the abdomen in a premature infant with abdominal compartment syndrome and cardiopulmonary arrest: a case report.
A premature infant with abdominal compartment syndrome underwent cardiopulmonary arrest before receiving decompressive laparotomy, and the effect of cardiopulmonary resuscitation was poor. The abdomen was punctured with an 18-gauge needle, alleviating the distension and resulting in successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

A wide range of fetal interventions are being performed worldwide to save the fetus's life, prevent permanent fetal organ damage, and allow a successful transition to extrauterine life. However, these are invasive procedures and can be associated with serious complications. ⋯ They include failure to preserve uteroplacental perfusion and gas exchange, failure to achieve adequate uterine relaxation prior to hysterotomy, failure to monitor the fetus and prepare for fetal/neonatal resuscitation, failure to prepare for maternal hemorrhage, and failure to promptly treat uterine atony. Practical tips for avoiding these serious complications will also be discussed.

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Education and Wellness of U.S. Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellows.
The global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused state-wide shutdowns of elective surgical activities in March and April of 2020 forcing graduate medical education program directors and their trainees in the United States to quickly adapt to new rules and circumstances. ⋯ While the results of this survey are only one snapshot in time during an evolving pandemic, these results highlight important domains where program directors and other departmental leaders might focus limited resources to maximize the educational experiences and overall wellness for pediatric anesthesiology fellows.

Hypotension and Adverse Neurodevelopmental Outcomes among Children with Multiple Exposures to General Anesthesia: Sub-analysis of the Mayo Anesthesia Safety in Kids (MASK) Study.
The potential adverse effects of exposures to general anesthesia on the developing human brain remain controversial. It has been hypothesized that hypotension accompanying anesthesia could be contributory. We hypothesized that among children exposed to multiple anesthetics prior to age 3, children developing adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes would be more likely to have intraoperative hypotension. ⋯ We did not find evidence to support the hypothesis that, among children exposed to multiple anesthetics prior to age 3, children developing adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes would be more likely to have intraoperative hypotension compared with those who did not.
