ReviewThe delivery and challenges of Pediatric Anesthesia within the humanitarian sector: Médecins Sans Frontières and Mercy Ships.

ReviewGlobal pediatric anesthesia-Anglophone West Africa perspective.
This article gives the pediatric anesthesia perspective from Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Gambia, five out of six countries in Anglophone West Africa. Over 40% of the population of most of these countries are younger than 14 years and there is an increasing need for paediatric anesthesia services. ⋯ The lack of opportunities for sub-specialty training in pediatric anesthesia in West Africa is currently being addressed in Nigeria and Ghana. Non-governmental agencies fund programs and courses related to pediatric anesthesia and have also provided fully equipped operating theaters. Advocacy for pediatric anesthesia can be achieved through the National Surgical Obstetric Anesthesia and Nursing Plans Implementation Committee of the various countries. There is an urgent need for prioritization of health in the budgets of Anglophone West African countries and governments must deliberately provide support for anesthesia and surgical services. More international collaborations towards workforce training and creation of children's hospitals are needed.

ReviewChildren's surgery and the emergency, critical, and operative care resolution: Immediate actions to eliminate disparities in surgery, anesthesia, and perioperative care for all children.
Around 1.7 billion children lack access to surgical care worldwide. To reinvigorate the efforts to address these disparities and support work to address global challenges in surgery, anesthesia, emergency, and critical care, the World Health Assembly passed World Health Organization Resolution World Health Assembly 76.2: Integrated emergency, critical and operative care for universal health coverage and protection from health emergencies (ECO) in 2023. ⋯ However, understanding how best to operationalize this resolution is challenging. We review the ECO resolution and highlight points that the pediatric surgical and anesthesia community can leverage to advocate for its recommendations for operative care.

In China, healthcare has lagged relative to its economic boom during the past 40 years. While the top tier hospitals offer pediatric perioperative care like high-income countries, lower-tier hospitals deliver lesser services of variable quality and safety related to equipment, supplies, clinician education, and availability. The national residency training program and the pediatric anesthesia fellowship program was established in 2013 and 2018 respectively. Increasing clinician workload from patient demand and a lack of consistency in quality and capability between rural and urban areas remain challenging.
