Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy and safety of spontaneous ventilation technique using dexmedetomidine for rigid bronchoscopic airway foreign body removal in children.
In children, removal of an airway foreign body is usually performed by rigid bronchoscopy under general anesthesia. Debate continues regarding the respiratory mode (spontaneous or controlled ventilation) and appropriate anesthetic drugs. Dexmedetomidine has several desirable pharmacologic properties and appears to be a useful agent for airway surgeries. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine may provide appropriately deep anesthesia and ideal conditions for rigid bronchoscopic airway foreign body removal without respiratory depression or hemodynamic instability.

Ultrasound-guided parasacral approach to the sciatic nerve block in children.
The parasacral (PS) approach to sciatic nerve blockade has the potential for safe and effective use in children, but has never been studied in this population. Its potential advantages include increased posterior cutaneous nerve block reliability, potential for hip joint analgesia, and decreased nerve depth, making ultrasound guidance easier. ⋯ The PS approach is an effective option for sciatic nerve blockade to provide postoperative pain relief in children having lower extremity surgery.

A review of 5434 percutaneous pediatric central venous catheters inserted by anesthesiologists.
To review the results of an anesthesiologist led pediatric percutaneous central venous access service. ⋯ This study demonstrates a high success rate and low complication rate during pediatric percutaneous internal jugular vein CVC insertions by trained anesthesiologists using LTs. Smaller children, hemodialysis CVCs, and the team's learning curve were identified as risk factors for insertion failure.

Minimum alveolar concentration of desflurane with caudal analgesia for laryngeal mask airway removal in anesthetized children.
Regional blocks have been shown to decrease the requirement of anesthetic agents. This study was conducted to determine the optimal endtidal concentrations of desflurane for removal of Laryngeal mask airway in children in presence of caudal block. ⋯ Laryngeal mask airway can be successfully removed in 50% of anesthetized children without coughing, moving, or any other airway complications at an endtidal desflurane concentration of 3.4% in the presence of caudal analgesia.
