ReviewAnesthesia management of neonates and infants requiring intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring: A concise review.
Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring is currently used to prevent intraoperative spinal cord and nerve injuries during neonatal and infant surgeries. However, its use is associated with some issues in these young children. The developing nervous system of infants and neonates requires higher stimulation voltage than adults to ensure adequate signals, thereby necessitating reduced anesthesia dose to avoid suppressing motor and somatosensory-evoked potentials. ⋯ Furthermore, monitoring errors such as false-negative results immediately affect the prognosis of motor and bladder-rectal functions in patients. Therefore, anesthesiologists need to be familiar with the effects of anesthetics and age-specific neurophysiological monitoring challenges. This review provides an update regarding available anesthetic options and their target concentration in neonates and infants requiring intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.

Teleconsultation in pediatric anesthesia: first assessment of feasibility, quality and satisfaction in France.
The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the development of anesthesia teleconsultation in many countries. In pediatric anesthesia, data about anesthesia teleconsultation are scarce. The main objective of this prospective descriptive study was to provide an evaluation of the feasibility of pediatric anesthesia teleconsultation. Perception of the safety and quality, parental and medical satisfaction were also assessed. ⋯ In this first assessment, pediatric anesthesia teleconsultation appears to be feasible, with high rates of medical and parental satisfaction. Physicians' perception of the safety and quality of this process were positive. Improving the technical process might be a key determinant to promote further development of pediatric anesthesia teleconsultation.

Safety of Pediatric Sedation and Analgesia during Burn Dressing Changes by Pediatric Residents.
Acute pain and anxiety management during pediatric burn dressing change is very challenging. There are limited data regarding feasibility and safety of sedation administration by nonanesthesiologists. We sought to describe the implementation of a sedation protocol for pediatric residents during burn dressing changes in the pediatric ward. ⋯ We designed and implemented an analgesia and sedation protocol for pediatric residents to be applied in patients during burn dressing change. The implemented protocol in the pediatric wards was found to be feasible and with a low incidence of adverse events.

Randomized Controlled Trial Observational StudyComparison of effects of volatile and intravenous anesthetics on pupillary function during general anesthesia in children: A prospective observational study.
The light reflex, which reflects central nervous system dysfunction, can also be affected by anesthetic agents. ⋯ The Neurological Pupil index value in pediatric patients under general anesthesia is affected by the anesthetic agent used; this factor requires consideration in evaluations of the Neurological Pupil index during general anesthesia.

Perioperative hypertension and anesthetic management in patients undergoing resection of neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial pediatric tumor, accounting for 5-8% of all childhood cancers. Neuroblastomas arise from catecholamine-secreting neural crest cells and their metabolites, vanillylmandelic acid and homovanillic acid, that are readily detected in urine. Although rarely seen in clinical practice, case reports exist documenting severe intraoperative hypertension. However, data on the incidence of intraoperative hypertension are lacking. ⋯ Intraoperative hypertension in patients with neuroblastoma remains a relatively uncommon occurrence; however, it does occur at a frequency higher than previously described. While intraoperative hypertension is associated with an increased use of antihypertensive medications in the operating room, it is not associated with adverse perioperative outcomes.
