This paper presents an account of nurses' perceptions and understanding of health promotion in an acute setting. ⋯ Ward managers have an important role in supporting nurses, creating a culture for health promotion and sharing power in decision-making processes, so that nurses feel valued and empowered.

This study aimed to describe the knowledge and skills of nurses in managing pain during colonoscopy procedures. ⋯ The results can be used to improve the treatment of pain during colonoscopy procedures and endoscopy nurses' education. Nurses should be motivated by education and ethical conversation. Future studies should aim to analyse patients' own evaluation of pain during the colonoscopy procedure. The applicability of the existing pain scales and non-pharmacological methods should be tested in practice.

To explore and reveal patients' perceptions of discharge arrangements and recovery following day surgery. ⋯ The results and problems identified have applicability for the development of discharge planning services and patient education in a day surgery context. It is suggested that the use of evidenced-based and innovative interventions among health professionals might improve patient outcomes.
