To assess the interplay between hope and the information provided by health care professionals. ⋯ If professionals, especially nurses, keep the process in mind that family members go through in handling information, they can not only facilitate this process but also help them to establish realistic hope.

This paper explores the ways family members reconstruct meaning through seizing possibilities for positive caregiving in nursing homes. ⋯ By highlighting what is attributed significance by families, a critical examination of the difficult issues which obstruct the development of meaningful partnerships among nurses, family and their relatives is facilitated. In particular, an examination of tensions at an ideological level supports the need for future research to focus its efforts on examining the ways of implementing nursing care that facilitates partnerships that incorporate and build upon positive and equal relations among staff, families and residents in the context of the nursing home setting.

To examine the prescribing practices of independent extended nurse prescribers for patients with skin conditions. ⋯ Nurses prescribing for skin conditions must be provided with appropriate dermatological training in order to treat the enormous numbers of patients with skin conditions treated in primary care.

To provide a systematic overview of the policy and practice literature concerned with the primary healthcare needs of prisoners in England and Wales and to address the implications of these health needs for nurses working in prisons. ⋯ With the reorganization of prison health services, health provision in prisons is increasingly primary care focused. This presents new challenges to nurses working in prison to provide a primary care service, which meets the identified health needs of prisoners.

Primary: to study the level of agreement among nurses and doctors in classifying the colour and exudation of open wounds according to the Red-Yellow-Black scheme. Secondary: to check their agreement with an international expert panel on whether their classification was correct. ⋯ The Red-Yellow-Black scheme is a helpful tool to classify all kinds of wounds and can be used as stand-alone classification method or as part of wound management concepts.
