The aim of this study was to examine the level of perceived burden of the Chinese families caring for a relative with schizophrenia and to test its associations with their demographic characteristics, social and family factors and health condition. ⋯ This understanding helps health professionals and researchers to identify different sources and domains of burden from a Chinese cultural perspective and take into account of these factors when planning interventions for family caregivers.

This paper aims to highlight the information-based dilemmas of a particular group of healthcare patients, first-time mothers over 35 years. ⋯ As the number of childbearing women over 35 years continues to grow, it is important for health professionals to understand the particular needs of this group. In doing so, doctors, midwives and maternal and child health nurses may be in a position to provide more meaningful maternal support.

This study aimed to describe the knowledge and skills of nurses in managing pain during colonoscopy procedures. ⋯ The results can be used to improve the treatment of pain during colonoscopy procedures and endoscopy nurses' education. Nurses should be motivated by education and ethical conversation. Future studies should aim to analyse patients' own evaluation of pain during the colonoscopy procedure. The applicability of the existing pain scales and non-pharmacological methods should be tested in practice.

To explore and reveal patients' perceptions of discharge arrangements and recovery following day surgery. ⋯ The results and problems identified have applicability for the development of discharge planning services and patient education in a day surgery context. It is suggested that the use of evidenced-based and innovative interventions among health professionals might improve patient outcomes.
