This study examines the utilisation of healthcare resources by critically ill older patients over one year following an intensive care unit stay. ⋯ Adequate healthcare resources, such as facilitated access to medical follow-up care, rehabilitation programs and home healthcare services, must be easily accessible for older patients following hospital discharge. Nurses need to be aware of the healthcare services available and advise patients accordingly.

This study aimed to determine the interobserver reliability between bedside nurses and attending physicians for a paediatric respiratory score as part of an asthma Integrated Care Pathway implementation. ⋯ The use of an Integrated Care Pathway allows for optimal interprofessional collaboration between bedside nurses and attending physicians.

This article presents an integrative review of the evidence for combined motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural interventions that promote medication adherence. We undertook this review to establish a scientific foundation for development of interventions to promote medication adherence and to guide clinical practice. ⋯ This review provides clinicians with the state of the science in relation to combined motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy interventions that promote medication adherence. A summary of intervention components and talking points are provided to aid nurses in informing decision-making and translating evidence into practice.

To critically appraise the available literature and summarise the evidence related to the use, prevalence, purpose and potential therapeutic benefits of intensive care unit diaries following survivors' discharge from hospital and identify areas for future exploration. ⋯ Intensive care diaries are a cost effective intervention which may yield significant benefits to survivors.

The aim of this study was to explore the integration of the nurse practitioner role in Canadian nursing homes to enable its full potential to be realised for resident and family care. The objective was to determine nurse practitioners' patterns of work activities. ⋯ Knowledge of work patterns enables nursing homes to implement the full range of nurse practitioner roles and activities to enhance resident and family care.
