To assess the level of implementation of medication safety practices in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and to identify opportunities for improvement. ⋯ Numerous effective safety medication practices have been identified with a low level of implementation in ICUs. This situation must be addressed in order to reduce medication errors in critically ill patients.

Exploring infectious diseases (ID) practice in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to identify gaps and opportunities. ⋯ ID practice is heterogeneous across ICUs while antimicrobial stewardship program is not universally implemented. From intensivists' perspective, ID training and knowledge need improvement.

There is controversy regarding the influence of humidification systems upon the incidence of respiratory infections associated to invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). An evaluation was made of the differences in the incidence of pneumonia and tracheobronchitis associated to mechanical ventilation (VAP and VAT, respectively) with passive and active humidification. ⋯ In our population, active humidification in patients ventilated for>48hours was not associated to an increase in respiratory infectious complications.
