Transcranial doppler measurement of cerebral velocity indices as a predictor of preeclampsia.
We have previously shown that women with preeclampsia demonstrate cerebral hyperperfusion and abnormal cerebrovascular autoregulation. In the current study, we tested the hypothesis that abnormal cerebrovascular function can be detected before the clinical onset of preeclampsia. ⋯ Normotensive pregnant women who later have preeclampsia demonstrate lower baseline pulsatility and resistance indices but normal vasodilatory responses to challenge tests. These findings suggest that women who are destined to have preeclampsia experience cerebral hemodynamic changes that predate the development of overt preeclampsia symptoms.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialIs rectal misoprostol really effective in the treatment of third stage of labor? A randomized controlled trial.
The purpose of this study was to compare misoprostol 600 microg intrarectally with conventional oxytocics in the treatment of third stage of labor. ⋯ Rectal misoprostol is significantly less effective than oxytocin plus methylergometrine for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialElevated maternal and fetal serum interleukin-6 levels are associated with epidural fever.
The study was performed to explore the evidence for a noninfectious inflammatory cause for epidural fever. ⋯ Epidural fever is associated with maternal and fetal inflammation in the absence of neonatal infection. Higher levels of cytokines in maternal serum suggest that the maternal compartment is the primary inflammatory source.

Pregnancy outcome of female survivors of childhood cancer: a report from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study.
This study was undertaken to determine the effect, if any, of prior treatment with radiation therapy or chemotherapy for cancer diagnosed during childhood or adolescence on pregnancy loss, live births, and birth weight. ⋯ This large study did not identify adverse pregnancy outcomes for female survivors treated with most chemotherapeutic agents. The offspring of women who received pelvic irradiation are at risk for low birth weight.
